Plot Summary

Catherine is at odds with her bourgeois family. She marries Jérome, a wealthy businessman in North Africa, in spite of her relatives' disapproval. When they arrive in their new country, she is warmly welcomed by her husband's mother and sister, but even while living in France, she feels a mysterious angst. In Casablanca, she meets a marabout in ecstasy and he introduces her to Arab mysticism. She believes she has to divest herself of everything, so she leaves the marital home and takes a job as a maid of all work. While reading the Koran, she continues to go a Catholic church. A white father will help her find her way. Written by dbdumonteil
