Funny but too long
J-BEN15 February 2000
20 years after "Et la tendresse, bordel", Patrice Schulmann produced a new comedy, a little strange. It begins in a very funny way- this story of a young boy who lived in the jungle of Borneo and comes suddenly to Paris - with the shock of two cultures, but in the second hour, the film becomes more serious and convinces less. But if you find it, it's not a bad movie.

This movie is - I think - very unique. Is it a comedy? Or is it rather a drama? Anyway... it's funny, surprising, bizarre, extraordinary,...

Until the last minute, you can only guess how it will end. And the two main actors make an respectable performance. The message of this film is an impulse for an discussion. Qui vit comme une bête? L'homme simple ou l'homme moderne? (Who live like a beast? The simple man or the moderne man?)

noble savage

delicate, naive, full of poetry slices. a bitter comedy, a good performance, a subtle message. and trip. in the heart of reality, experiences of a sauvage in a strange society. the motif is not very new in French filmography. but more important is exploration of way to discover the urban jungle as instrument for define yourself. the special ingredient - the good humor and drops of fairy tale. the love story, the broken childhood, the success and true affection, the revenge and the friendship, shadows of Illuminism vision and game of situations. and the adventures of Leo as map of ideal, the old-new ideal , soul of each existence, form of real happiness.
