"Papageno" is a 10-minute animated short movie German animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger. And while I am not really interested in classical music, opera or Mozart's "Magic Flute", I enjoyed the watch. The best thing for me easily was the music. The voices are really nice to listen to from start to finish. The animation is not as great, but still good. It all depends also whether Reiniger's style is your cup of tea or not and it's not really mine. But it's not bad by any means either. It's basically all about black and white, about dark and light and depicting motion in harmony with the music played and sung at the same time.
Another interesting aspect is to put in in perspective in terms of when it was made. Back then, Nazis were in force for two years and if you take a look at 1930s animation from everywhere else around the world, especially the United States, then you will have to admit that Reiniger's style is truly unique and could not be anymore different to what I mentioned before. So, it's worth a watch for people interested in somewhat different kinds of animation, but also for everybody who just enjoys good music. Recommended.
