Farmer John decides to go out and buy a new tractor, and also planned to reward his faithful plow-horse, Sugarfoot, with a place to live out the rest of his days in pasture. However, Sugarfoot doesn't know about this, and fears his master is going to basically ship him off to the glue factory, enraging him and making him destroy the new tractor. Even explaining to John in pantomime doesn't help as he is not only told he's wrong, but he is now banished from the farm. As he walks along, he sees them making a movie, and in desperate need of a stunt-double horse, hires him on the spot. Despite all the trials and tribulations of doing all the hard stuff to make the star horse look good, he makes enough money to return to the farm and offer it to John and Nellie to replace the tractor. As a reward, John takes Sugarfoot to the movies, where they watch the movie in which he did all the dirty work for the star horse in.
