- The NYPD has hired psychiatrist Dr. Pete Graham to provide a different perspective into the case of a serial mugger, whose modus operandi is to attack women from behind, steal their purse, and slash their left cheek with a blade with one singular narrow and shallow cut. All attacks have been in the same Lincoln Heights neighborhood, with eight victims over an eleven week span by the time Pete starts working on the case. Concurrently, he is asked by cabbie Eddie Baxter to speak to his young sister-in-law Jeannie Page who he and his pregnant wife, Jeannie's sister Molly Baxter, believe is in some sort of trouble. While Jeannie refuses to open up to Pete, he may get further insight into Jeannie from his girlfriend, police detective Claire Townsend, who, undercover, knows Jeannie in they both working as taxi dancers at the Coquette dance hall. As more muggings occur with victim accounts providing more and more information, Pete believes he has a more complete picture as to the type of person with who they are dealing, however with one victim being killed throwing some greater urgency into the case. The muggings and the issue with Jeannie end up merging in Pete's professional life, but not quite the way one person in particular hopes.—Huggo
