A bear's home is overrun with mice. He decides he needs a cat. What he gets is a tiger cub in this funny Screen Gems cartoon.
Screen Gems' cartoon division was perfectly capable of turning out some very funny cartoons. Here, with Hugh McCollum as their producer -- he was usually Jules White associate producer in Columbia's comedy shorts division -- they produce a good cartoon that makes me think the other cartoon directors were keeping an eye on the competition. Dick Nelson's bear talks just like Stan Freberg's Junior Bear would in Chuck Jones cartoons.
This must have been among the last black & white cartoons produced by any of the major studios; Columbia would shut down cartoon production this year, although releases would stagger on through 1949.
