Human poking rather than cowpoking
lor_6 August 2010
Something Weird's video reissue of TWILIGHT COWBOY on Volume 31 of its Dragon Art Series is an incomplete version, but no great loss. Though the title pokes fun at MIDNIGHT COWBOY, this is just boring sex filler down on the ranch - no relation to male hustling whatsoever.

Story structure has our hero Jenkins narrating to a judge the incidents of a bad day that evidently landed him in trouble with the law. His sister Mona and his brother-in-law are having sex while he heads to town to hire some drifter to help out on the ranch, setting fence posts and the like. Later, while he's in town to attend an auction, Mona arranges a foursome involving hubby, the drifter and her gal pal Delores. In town Jenkins is greeted by a "No auction today" sign, returns home early and spies the hanky-panky through a window. He heads back to his van to fetch a gun and incomplete film ends abruptly before he can get back to the house to use it. The crime of passion (presumably outraged at sis' sexual activities?) and issues with the judge remain unresolved.

This poorly directed junker had a date of 1976 in IMDb, but that has been corrected to 1971, reasonable given its primitive content. It is likely an example of regional filmmaking, overlapping with neither the West Coast nor New York school of the day. Unidentified cast is unimpressive, and they go through the motions in boring fashion. Only element of interest is the use of an original musical score (!), not very good but with guitar & bass plus a pointless ballad sung over recounting Jenkins' plight.
