Le domestique châtelain

At least the third time writer/director Yves Mirande had been transferred to the screen; Diamant-Berger is not much of a director, but the excellent cast makes up for it :Yves Deniaud , excellent as the chasseur (bellboy) of the poshest place in Paris: you should see his face when the marquis steals his lover from him and she acts as they've never met; or his nouveau riche demeanor when thanks to his lucrative job,he retires and buys his rival's castle. His speeches the syntax of which is dubious when he becomes a notable .

Pierre Larquey as a meek bishop ,who prefers the new chatelaine's whisky to the parochial orangeade is irresistible. Raymond Bussières as the gamekeeper is a good mate; Gerard Séty heavy made up to look "Eastern " who stalks female preys for his royal master and can reward his helps by making them "commanders of the blue dromadary ".

A young Jean Piat ,future stage and TV actor, patronizing ,snob, a womanizer always short of the readies .

The plot is outright silly ,but the actors survive such a dated old-fashioned theatre de boulevard. No small feat.
