Every movie can’t be dynamite. Often enough, they suck. Speed Racer is one of those films that many people agree to be not so great. Although this is the popular consensus, it’s a film that some of us can’t help but enjoy.
Many of us know a good movie when we see one. We appreciate what it brings to the table, and for whatever reason it just speaks to us. On the other hand, we can pick out bad movies too. We know when a movie is not living up to its potential. We know when the actors or director are phoning it in. It’s those bad movies that make us appreciate the good ones so much more.
Unfortunately the quality of a film isn’t always black and white. Sometimes a film may be absolutely rubbish, yet we enjoyed the time we spent watching it.

"As it relates to independent film, the sky really is falling," announced film executive Mark Gill in 2008, but it's starting to look like his aim was off. One month after Steven Spielberg and George Lucas predicted an "implosion" of the Hollywood industry, the moment may have arrived even sooner than they anticipated. Doom and gloom reports of studio box office duds in recent weeks suggest that the proliferation of overpriced, undercooked tentpole releases has reached another breaking point. Dispatches from Comic-Con report of a general fatigue among conventioneers faced with endless previews of the same half-baked formulas devoid of original concepts. While frugal directors and producers working outside this playing field relish in the schadenfreude, disoriented moguls perplexed by their current situation might want to spend the weekend contemplating it in the context of Hollywood's latest -- and mercifully watchable -- product, "The Wolverine." The latest edition to Fox's...

London — The Rolling Stones returned to London's Hyde Park after 44 years with a concert that saluted both the band's past and the fleetingly idyllic English summer. Mick Jagger even donned a frock for the occasion.
The band played an outdoor gig for 65,000 people Saturday in the same venue as a landmark 1969 show performed two days after the death of founding member Brian Jones.
It's most often remembered for the vast crowd of more than 200,000, for Jagger quoting Percy Bysshe Shelley as eulogy to Jones – and for the white dress Jagger wore onstage.
Jagger took the stage in a similar white smock Saturday for a rendition of "Honky Tonk Women," a song the band also played in 1969.
"Just something I found in the back," he said.
Much else has changed since 1969. Then, the concert was free. On Saturday, some fans had paid 200 pounds ($300) a ticket. Jagger turns 70 this month, drummer Charlie Watts...

Attention Vampire Diaries fanatics: Today we have the latest photos from an upcoming new episode. What will they reveal? Get ready for a flashback!
Ah, 1970. Black Sabbath’s first album was released. Richard Nixon was in the White House. American Motors Corporation introduced the Gremlin to consumers, the Beatles broke up and Apollo 13 went to the moon. Also, apparently, Damon Salvatore partied in New York City and partied hard he did. We have photographic proof!
When The Vampire Diaries returns on March 14, with “Bring It On”, Elena must attend the latest Mystic Falls memorial. How much are you going to miss Jeremy? Do you think having to see the house in flames made things worse for Elena? Doom and gloom comes with the territory, but it is the episode which follows that will transport us to another time and place.

"X-Men: The Last Stand," while decently entertaining, isn’t really held up as one of the better comic book movies, mostly because of its patchwork plot and fan service instincts in the wake of Bryan Singer’s unexpected departure. Brett Ratner, who replaced Singer on the movie, went for the crowd-pleasing move every time without wondering about how it might affect the franchise’s direction—though, to be fair, there wasn’t much of a franchise future blocked out ahead of time.
Still, Singer will get a chance to correct some of the movie’s more egregious transgressions in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," as he revealed in an interview with IGN. "There’s going to be a little of that, a few things I can repair," he said when asked about whether he’d be addressing the continuity.
Here are a few suggestions for what he might do.

In the irony of all ironies, Comic-Con isn’t really about comics anymore. The annual zenith of nerddom has become more dedicated to the rhythm and release of the movie industry over the last few years, a place where enterprising producers can tease details about their new projects, where movie stars can hope to get more attention than a Stan Lee walkthrough (probably not, though), where privately screened trailers are hastily bootlegged on YouTube for breathlessly devoted online watchdogs to come through before being taken down within minutes.
This year, fans paying attention to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will have something to look for, as director Bryan Singer offered the simplest tease of content to follow at the July convention. That could mean a lot of things, most of them fan servicey, though if Singer’s looking to build buzz then there’s really no better time or place to do it.

Strange as this may sound, I wasn’t really convinced of the scope of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" until Wednesday’s news that "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage has been cast in an unconfirmed role, per director Bryan Singer’s Twitter. Speculation immediately abounded over whom the diminutive Dinklage could be playing, whether the obvious (Alpha Flight mutant Puck), unconventional (maniacal madman Arcade), or just plain obscure (Bantum, the sidekick to Trevor Fitzroy who... oh, I’ve already lost the thread).
It’s a solid move, obviously, because anyone who’s seen "Game of Thrones" or "The Station Agent" knows the dramatic chops that Dinklage is capable of bringing. But it’s inspiring in another way, because Dinklage represents the first significant actor brought onto the project who hasn’t been previously affiliated with the X-Men.

This week, we found out that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will take place in 1973, a full decade after the end of “X-Men: First Class."
Previously, Matthew Vaughn had announced his intention to further integrate mutants into American history, such as showing that Magneto was the one behind the bullet that killed President Kennedy. Just because he’s no longer on the project doesn’t mean his idea can’t be aped by Singer for a pre-movie credit sequence showing all the ways in which mutants have covertly influenced the way of things. It’s an easy device to make the audience go “Aha!" at the opening of a movie, depending on how well it’s used. (It was the best part of “Watchmen," sadly.)
Here are some of the events that occurred in 1973 that could be attributed to the X-Men, should Singer do what’s right.
The Vietnam War ends.

It’s typically a given that most of a superhero movie’s regulars will return for the sequel, in order to maintain continuity, build on previous characterization, and basically keep the ride going. When a noticeable character is noticeably left out — Alan Cummings as Nightcrawler snubbed for the third "X-Men" movie, for instance — it's rare enough to mull on whatever might have gone wrong.
Which leads us to this little nugget to mull on: January Jones has revealed that she isn’t a lock to return as Emma Frost in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
"I don’t know that I’m in it, I don’t think Emma’s in this one. Well, they haven’t told me if I am," Jones told Collider. "I wouldn’t put it past them though, I got the script for the first one on the airplane on the way there. It’s...

You won't be surprised by this, but there's an ebb and flow to the pre-movie hype cycle. For every trailer and press photo released, there's a week or two of dead air in which nothing more is massaged out of a project — especially one like "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which is at least a year and a half away from being released and hasn't started filming.
But, there was some burn in the regular X-Men comics world, which announced the launch of a new title simply titled "X-Men" that will solely feature the adventures of an all-female X-team, of which there are plenty. It got me thinking about the roster of the team — Storm, Psylocke, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey and Jubilee — and whether they would function if introduced into the X-filmverse, and whether we might be able to expect their eventual coming. If you’ll indulge me in a little thought exercise.

Expectations are a terrible thing to have, because they inevitably end up disappointing the person idealistic enough to imagine that anything might be good, ever. I'm being a little sardonic, but it's triply true for the foolish of us paying attention to comic book movies before they come out, when the primordial soup of possibility allows our inner fanboy to foresee wild, desperate highs of creative adaptation and post-Nolan brilliance.
Obviously, this never happens. Expect Terry Gilliam's "Watchmen," and end up with Zack Snyder scoring slo-mo sex with "Hallelujah"; expect Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and end up with a mute, fleshy surgery victim in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Expect Darren Aronofsky's take on Logan's lonely sojourn to Japan, and end up with the director of "Kate and Leopold."
But there's tangible proof for optimism to rear its head, rather than remaining a dreamy projection of what could be. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly,...

Remember when Darren Aronofsky was supposed to direct "The Wolverine"? Yeah, that was a pretty exciting time in my life, too. The idea of the Oscar-nominated auteur slapping a heady, cerebral take on Wolverine seemed implausible from the moment it was rumored, but everything was seemingly a go until he quit for what could’ve been a number of secret reasons behind the announced one of wanting to spend more time with his family.
Whatever the reason, Aronofsky's departure was enough to torpedo the movie’s momentum and make it seem like it would always be a rumored production, floating around the blogosphere like a lazy, unwanted balloon. That we’re still here, many years and directors later, is a testament to the fact that someone apparently wants this thing to get made, because it’s not like we’re still in the franchise’s peak marketable years.
So this is where we are.

The first time I watched a movie on a high-definition television, I thought I was going insane. The run time was the same, but everything seemed to be moving quicker and more unnaturally than the normal DVD and VHS speeds I was accustomed to. But when I pointed it out to a friend, he said he didn’t notice anything, leaving me alone with my conspiracy.
As it turns out, I wasn’t going blind. The pace I noticed was a result of higher frame rate, which has gained some mainstream attention now that "The Hobbit," filmed at 48 frames per second over the typical 24, has been released. Peter Jackson’s decision to up the technology for the trilogy has been controversial, inasmuch as reviews have been mixed and you can still see the regular frame rate at most theaters. (It continues to make a lot of money, though.)

New York -- It sure didn't feel like a farewell.
The Rolling Stones – average age 68-plus, if you're counting – were in rollicking form as they rocked the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for 2 1/2 hours Saturday night, their first U.S. show on a mini-tour marking a mind-boggling 50 years as a rock band.
And although every time the Stones tour, the inevitable questions arise, – whether it's "The Last Time," to quote one of their songs – there was no sign that anything is ending anytime soon.
"People say, why do you keep doing this?" mused 69-year-old Mick Jagger, the band's impossibly energetic frontman, before launching into "Brown Sugar." "Why do you keep touring, coming back? The answer is, you're the reason we're doing this. Thank you for buying our records and coming to our shows for the last 50 years."

New York — "Time Waits for No One," the Rolling Stones sang in 1974, but lately it's seemed like that grizzled quartet does indeed have some sort of exemption from the ravages of time.
At an average age of 68-plus years, the British rockers are clearly in fighting form, sounding tight, focused and truly ready for the spotlight at a rapturously received pair of London concerts last month.
On Saturday, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts hit New York for the first of three U.S. shows on their "50 and Counting" mini-tour, marking a mind-boggling half-century since the band first began playing its unique brand of blues-tinged rock.
And the three shows – Saturday's at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, then two in Newark, N.J., on Dec. 13 and 15 – aren't the only big dates on the agenda. Next week the Stones join a veritable who's who of British rock royalty and U.

The Rolling Stones have revealed that they wrote their new material in an "amazingly quick" time. The band included new cuts 'Doom and Gloom' and 'One More Shot' on their recent greatest hits collection Grrr!, which was released to celebrate their 50th anniversary. "So we banged out a couple of tracks in the autumn in Paris, 'Doom and Gloom' and 'One More Shot'," Keith Richards told Esquire. "I don't think the Stones have ever cut a track so fast. It was like three takes and - boom! We were like looking at each other and going, 'Got (more)...

The Rolling Stones have officially launched their 50th anniversary tour. Following a warm-up show in Paris, the band celebrated its big year by heading to London's 02 Arena on Sunday (Nov. 25) and performing in front of a sold-out crowd.
According to Rolling Stone's review, the band delivered one great show. Members like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were joined on stage by former colleagues Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor, while Mary J. Blige and Jeff Beck also jumped in on performances.
After a second performance in London on Nov. 29, the Stones will continue their reunion tour in New York City on Dec. 8 and Newark, N.J. on Dec. 13 and 15. Maybe then they'll finally play "Satisfaction," the one classic Rolling Stones hit that was noticeably missing from their line-up on the first stop of the tour. Here's the full show set list, courtesy of Rolling Stone:

In honor of their 50th anniversary, The Rolling Stones have released another greatest hits compilation, Grrr!, which includes two new tracks; and the video for one of them, "Doom and Gloom," has hit the Internet featuring a very familiar face.
The video was directed by Jonas Jonas Åkerlund and stars total badass Noomi Rapace of Prometheus and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fame. It also marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven years. The single was recorded in Paris and touches on a lot of current issues like corporate greed and poverty, war, and fracking; and the video definitely gives Rapace a workout. She flashes her boobs, battles zombies, panhandles, pukes, and lots more!
Check it out below, and marvel at the fact that Mick and the boys may be senior citizens, but they're...

Sneak Peek the official restricted video for the Rolling Stones' single "Doom and Gloom", directed by Jonas Akerlund.
Filmed in Paris, France, the video stars Swedish actress Noomi Rapace ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo").
In one sequence, Rapace strips down to underpants, leather jacket and pink wig, while flashing her breasts to passing motorists.
She is also seen writhing semi-naked on a bed covered in bank notes, before setting fire to the money.

Holidays. They're a bitch when it comes to news sometimes so it's time to get shameless. The new Rolling Stones video hit and it stars Prometheus and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace taking on various guises: Including appearing as a zombie killer.
The song's called Doom and Gloom and it was directed by Jonas Akerlund, who has made a killing directing music videos. In 2009, he helmed the feature Horsemen starring Dennis Quaid. Perhaps you remember that one? (Perhaps not.)
If you're a Rapace fan, dig in.

The Rolling Stones video for "Doom and Gloom" is an old school button-pusher. The clip features "Prometheus" star (and erstwhile girl with the dragon tattoo), Noomi Rapace in various stages of undress and adult situations. She's killing zombies, fighting off grabby businessmen, pan-handling and eating junk food until she pukes. (That part is disgusting, fyi.) She's also not necessarily the center of attention. That honor goes to Stones frontman Mick Jagger, who mugs and gyrates in ways that fans have come to expect. He's Mick Jagger, after all, and not even 69 years on this planet can make him stop acting like an agitated peacock.
To celebrate the release of "Doom and Gloom," which is part of the band's latest greatest hits compilation, HuffPost Entertainment has compiled 27 of Mick's best looks and moves in the new video. Watch the Nsfw clip above and check out Mick in the gallery below. Happy Thanksgiving!

This entire video is basically a line-for-line manifestation of the lyrics to the Rolling Stones' new single "Doom and Gloom," as if they had somehow occurred in Noomi Rapace's very on-the-nose dream. Being rich is symbolized by Rapace swimming in a pile of cash and being poor means Rapace as a gutterpunk with a sign that reads "I'm Poor." Mick sings "eating dirt," so Rapace eats and vomits and eats hamburgers until her head literally explodes, as Mick sings "going to make your head explode." It is the music-video equivalent of your dad whispering to you at the Thanksgiving table: "Did you see that Prometheus movie? I'd like to see that gal naked on a pile of trash."...

Happy Thanksgiving. It's been a terrific month for mining new music. I caught an advance screening of Led Zeppelin's new concert movie at MoMA (and their press conference), discovered what may be my favorite album of the year, and found inspiring young musicians sharing their chops and muses with the world. With the holidays around the corner, here are some early suggestions for music very much worth sharing with friends, lovers, bosses, and family.
"You're So Great / It's All Right, Ma" Wendy James You're So Great E.P. (Cobraside)
If Brit-born/NYC-based Ms. James's claim-to-fame-band Transvision Vamp was a tad too sugar-pop coated for your New Yawk punk rawk palette, not to worry. Thanks to guitarist James Williamson (Iggy Pop Stooge) and drummer James Sclavunos (Nick Cave alumnus), she's found some downtown 'tude. The A-side is a fun retro Ramones-style punk ditty, but it's the flip-side Grinderman-grind Dylan cover where it all comes together.

It’s safe to say The Rolling Stones are busy. The band is in rehearsals for their upcoming 50th anniversary shows and they’ve just released a massive greatest hits collection called Grrr!. Mick Jagger and company somehow found time to shoot the video for their new track, “Doom and Gloom,” and even managed to enlist some famous help, the star of the original Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films and more recently Prometheus, Noomi Rapace. Directed by Jonas Akerlund, “Doom and Gloom” shows Rapace fighting zombies, taking a baseball bat to a TV, hitchhiking topless (making it a little Nsfw)...

So yeah, The Rolling Stones creaked into their 50th year in 2012, and the old dudes are still cranking it out. They're lining up some gigs, and also dropped the absurdly named Grrr!, another greatest hits disc that also features two new songs for you completists out there. And of course, a new video has arrived to try and prove they've still got it. "Doom And Gloom," helmed by Jonas Akerlund (who previously directed "Rain Falls Down" for the band), rounds up Noomi Rapace and puts her into a variety of different outfits, locations and scenes for a video we don't quite understand. At one moment she's killing zombies, in another she's topless and rolling around in filth, and in another she's dressed up like a clown (we think...) eating fast food. Huh? Is this about...consumerism? Is it an ironic statement on the Rolling Stones money machine? We have no idea.

The Rolling Stones have recruited a Hollywood A-lister for their latest video, and persuaded her to go topless.
Watch The Video for 'Doom and Gloom' above.
For their well-received 'Gloom and Doom' song, 'Dragon Tattoo' star Noomi Rapace has done the honours of appearing in the video. And, seeing as it's the legendary rockers asking, it was only polite to cover herself in rubbish, smear blood all over her face, writhe around in money and then bare her chest.
Noomi Rapace gives it her all for the Stones in their new video
The chaps are, understandably, covered up, but Mick Jagger proves he's still got it going on, jiggling around with an impressive amount of energy for a pensioner, while Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood play on guitars. And Charlie Watts remains his usual unflappable self on drums.

The Rolling Stones have released their second new track, "One More Shot," off their upcoming album, "Grrr!"
The upbeat song proves that The Stones, in the business since 1962, still have it.
"It's got all this f--ing power," producer Don Was said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "Everyone was smiling. You can recognize it's the Rolling Stones from a mile away."
Throughout the song, the rockers croon, "Give me one, give me one more shot / yeah and it’s all I got."
In October, the band premiered "Doom and Gloom" the first new song the Stones had recorded in seven years. The 50th anniversary album, "Grrr!" features the two new songs as well as Stones' classics such as "Start Me Up" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The album is due out Nov. 13.

We might have celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Rolling Stones by posting an exclusive clip from their upcoming DVD "Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland 1965," but fans in Paris are going to get to honor the momentous year with something a little more exciting. Rolling Stones fans have been left fuming after realising they may end up shelling out thousands to see the band for their 50th anniversary shows.
Some "secondary" ticketing sites have put them on sale for four or five-figure sums and fans have grumbled that they faced huge bills even for standard "pre-sale" tickets to see the pair of gigs at London's O2 Arena.
It comes as the band's first new studio recording for seven years has been unable to persuade many fans to part with 99p for a download, with the song at a lowly number 74 in the charts.
According to midweek sales figures, 'Doom And Gloom', which went on sale just days ago is a long way from making it into the top 40 on Sunday.
