“Seoul Searching,” an '80s-set teen comedy written and directed by Benson Lee, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and was a homecoming of sorts for Lee. His previous film, “Miss Monday,” also premiered at the fest in 1998, winning a Special Jury Award for star Andrea Hart’s performance. After Sundance, the coming-of-age film also hit the Seattle International Film Festival (where it won the Futurewave Youth Jury Award), CAAMFest (where it won an Audience Award for Best Narrative film), and as it arrives as the Los Angeles Film Festival it provided me a second chance to take a look at the movie. When I first caught the film back at Sundance, I was moved by its performances and equally impressed by its stellar '80s soundtrack, which features cuts from The Clash ("Should I Stay or Should I Go"), Spandau Ballet ("True"), Erasure...

Korean-American filmmaker Benson Lee won the Jury Prize at Sundance with his Competition Drama, Miss Monday, in 1998. A decade later he returned with Planet B-Boy, a critically-acclaimed, commercially-successful doc about breakdancing crews competing in an international competition. Lee’s success with Planet B-Boy led to both a studio deal and a career setback. Battle of the Year, a Sony production based on B-Boy, was as critically derided as the doc was praised, and it was a commercial failure to boot. This year, Lee returned to the site of his Miss Monday success — the Sundance Film Festival — with an […]...

The Sundance Institute effectively filled out its slate for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival with the announcement of the always star-friendly premieres category. It's also where many former Sundance filmmakers bring their second, third and even fourth films back to the fest. This year the category features 16 world premieres and almost all of them are from Sundance alumni, including Ryan Fleck ("Half Nelson"), Noah Baumbach ("The Squid and the Whale"), Joe Swanberg ("VHS"), Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite"), James Ponsoldt ("The Spectacular Now"), Michael Almereyda (2000's "Hamlet"), Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives"), Benson Lee ("Miss Monday"), Leslye Headland ("Bachelorette"), and Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman ("American Splendor"). Some of the intriguing titles include Paul Weitz's "Grandma" with Lily Tomlin and Laverne Cox, Ryan Fleck and Anna Bowden's "Mississippi Grind" with Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller, Garcia's "Last Days in the Desert" featuring Ewan McGregor as Jesus, Charles Stone III's "Lila...

John Cena is not scheduled for the July 21st Monday Night Raw, reports f4wonline.com. The reason for his absence is due to his shooting commitments in the movie ‘Trainwreck’.
What’s interesting about Cena’s time off is that it comes the night after the Battleground pay-per-view. If he was to retain his belt this weekend, you would have expected him to come out on Raw to celebrate his victory and move his story forward. The booking of Brock Lesnar for next week seemed to indicate we would have had a Brock / Cena angle. That would have been the start of the promotion for Cena vs Lesnar at SummerSlam. Obviously with Cena not on Raw, that angle is made difficult and is probably better saved for a later week. The other option is that Brock puts down a promo which challenges Cena, who would then respond the following week.

I feel like I should start this review off with a disclaimer: I Really wanted to like Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
We received our review copy a few days late, so a small subset of reviews had already started to pop up, and, in all honesty, I was a bit shocked to see just how vile some of the scores were. You see, the dirty secret behind video game reviews is that there’s a reason most games end up on the upper end of the bell curve, and that’s because very few really bad games make their way to our desks. They’re either killed off somewhere in development, not given out for reviews, or deemed a poor use of our resources. Most of what we see is “good.” Not great, not bad, just good. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, however, does not fit into that classification.

When Team Ninja told us they'd be bringing cosplayer Jessica Nigri--and more importantly, snacks--to Pax Prime, we demanded photographic evidence that this all went down.
After the jump, see what the "Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z" team had in store for the show.
Nigri was in attendance dressed as Miss Monday while fans could grab free tacos from the "Yaiba"-themed truck earlier this week. If you're still at the show today, got one of the wristbands from the truck earlier this week, and over 21, you can also check out the Midnight Zombie Movie Night hosted by Dead Ninjaz After Dark, who will be screening "Miami Connection" and "Zombies vs. Ninja" between 9:00 Pm and 1:30 Am at The Big Picture, 2505 1st Avenue.

Screen Gems has tapped Benson Lee to adapt his award-winning breakdancing documentary "Planet B-Boy" into a feature to be produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm.
The 2007 documentary focused on the international world of B-boying, commonly known in the U.S. as breakdancing. Although the urban dance waned in popularity stateside after peaking in the 1980s, it has evolved and thrived in countries including Japan, South Korea, France and Germany, where in underground form it became more aggressive and athletic. "Bionic b-boying" is how Lee described it.
The doc followed dancers from several continents, culminating in a competition between crews from 18 nations vying for title of world champion at the annual Battle of the Year finals in Berlin.
The new "B-Boy" will tell the story of a legendary b-boy crew that must return to its roots to reclaim the world championship by competing against the top international breakdancing teams.
