Down with the nouveau riche!
ulicknormanowen10 July 2020
"Mon curé " is a character whose success was huge in France :this is the fourth version of "mon curé chez les pauvres" ,the first one made in the silent era .And there are also several versions of "Mon curé chez les pauvres" (itself remade in the late fifties with the same cast as the 1952 film and a bonus :Arletty as a mechanic), "Mon curé champion du régiment" , etc

Thanks to a good cast , Yves Deniaud as the priest ,Raymond Bussières as "la Goupille",who fought in the war with him, Jean Debucourt as the distinguished bishop who thinks the vicar ought to use a language more refined than this slang he learned in the army. A nouveau riche and his fickle wife have replaced the nobles in Sableuse village ; this ignorant parvenu also wants to become the mayor of the village ;both his programme written with the help of a professional ,and the vicar's sermon are pretty funny moments .

Not for highbrows.
