I have seen this film on French TV in summer 1998 and I simply loved it! It is a satirical portrait of male-dominated peasant society in the mountains of the Valais in Switzerland, and at the same time the funny and touching story of a young woman who is determined to make her way in this environment. She comes back from Geneva to her deceased father's farm and starts breeding battle cows (a Valais speciality) there. Of course, the old men in the village don't like at all that a young woman bursts into their group, but in the end, she succeeds in being appreciated by them.
