The first of many unofficial spin off movies from the BBC TV show "Doctor Who", created using a contract loophole which allowed production companies to license characters directly from their creators.
Two Versions of this Film Exist, the first released in 1987, and a decade later an extended cut was released with added scenes and a Narration by Nicholas Courtney reprising his role as the Brigadier.
Whilst numerous Direct to Video Movies were made and released detailing the Expanded Universe of Doctor Who, this is the Only such one that was released whilst Doctor Who was still on the air, all others were released during "the Wilderness years" when the show was not on the air.
This is the first time Benton's first name was mentioned on screen, although listed as "John Benton" in the Radio Times since the characters introduction, the show and credits usually referred to the character as "Sergeant Benton".
