A great cartoon of British humor
patrickfilbeck10 October 2021
"Blazing Dragons" is a cartoon from the forge of the Monty Phyton family and is strongly supported by the dry British humor that one knows and loves. Lots of little jokes and intelligent allusions to the history of Britain and the world of sagas, fables and adventures make the series a pleasure for lovers of the historical and the fantastic. The drawings are terrific, the background art is very detailed and the voice acting has been carefully selected and implemented. Sometimes the series is a tad too slow and the typical Monty Phyton humor definitely has a harder time here than in live-action shows, stand-alone films and parodies of the human world. For the smaller viewers, the main plot, the amusement of man and dragon, as well as the relative gloom is a reason to look carefully and happily here. All in all a great series that deserves a lot more attention and possibly a sequel that wants to stay true to the spirit of the original. Perhaps this little pearl of the cartoon world should stay to itself and not see a sequel that might lose sight of the core and zeitgeist of the series.

Here's why you should watch this cartoon:

Warning: Spoilers
A. Monty Python humor, and 2 they work the title into the first episode. The animation is also quit good, in it's attempt to reach a target audience. Thumbs up, for sure. Holy pales or quails that appear to be pope-ish. Papal? I don't know. Good cartoon.

"Monty Python" with training wheels
Baroque30 August 2002
Monty Python alumni Terry Jones created this witty cartoon series, and his talent shows. The writing is clever and filled with all sorts of puns and comic historical references, often with surreal tweaks. In one episode, the minstrel, who appears at the beginning and end of the shows singing a short song about the story, is referred to by one of the Square Table Knights. Another knight responds, "You mean he's real? I thought he was a continuation device created by the writers!"

The second season's animation quality suffered, but the writing talent remained strong.

In the USA, this is currently shown during the overnight hours (12:30 AM Pacific!) on Toon Disney. Why it isn't on Comedy Central goes beyond me. The humor will even keep even the most jaded adult viewers amused. Highly recommended for your friends in the Society for Creative Anachronism.

Bad Adaptation of the King Arthur tales
djangorflores3 September 2021
This show is not the best I have seen in the 1990s. The characters, both protagonists and antagonists, are quite mean spirited and there is very little sympathy for others. There may have been other issues with the cartoon, but the characters are what I had been annoyed by the most when I watched the show.

One of the main protagonists, Sir Loungelot, was dislikeable for the most part and was considered to be the most mean-spirited protagonist of the cartoon. I found Sir Loungelot to be mean spirited because of how greedy he is with food and the way he treats the other characters of the show, mostly particularly Squire Flicker. As for everyone else that Loungelot encounters, he treats them just as bad as Flicker sometimes. It seems if Loungelot only cares about himself rather than be a knight. This is what bothered me the most about the show and its characters. This is the worst main character I ever seen in a 1990s cartoon.

This should not be on at 1:30 in the morning!

How would anyone see it, unless they're a night owl like me? I stumbled across this on Toon Disney at 1:30 in the morning, and it made me laugh like only two other cartoons--Darkwing Duck and Garfield and Friends--ever have.

Flicker, Flame, King Allfire, Sir Loungelot, all of them are great characters. The script is witty. Take this line by King Allfire: "Blazing dragons!...I simply have GOT to think of another expletive."

This is great!

I love this series!!!

Probably one of the least well known and funniest cartoons out there. It has plenty of adult humor as well as childrens'. In fact, children probably wouldn't get a lot of the jokes. Typical British humor. A must for anyone who liked Monty Python.

What a great little show!

I, too, discovered this on Toon Disney at 1:30 in the morning. (I make it a habit to watch late-night cartoons). This show is absolutely fabulous. I love cartoons, and this one just takes the cake. Everything about it is so creative and funny--even the theme song is uniquely hilarious! Anyone who thinks cartoons are just for kids needs to check out this series: the adult humor is wonderful.

heartfelt plea

It's a pity that this film series isn't available on video or DVD - in the UK its been aired once on terrestrial TV (1996), and I doubt given the fashion in cartoons now whether they will ever air it again. The second series was cruder in animation than the first, and even the first lacked attention to some details, but the gags were excellent and the characterizations - particularly the Loungealot/Flicker dialogues - superb.
