“Dark Matter” (Syfy)
The “Dark Matter” TV series came years after the debut of the Dark Horse comic book it’s based on, but creators Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie originally conceived of the series — about six individuals who wake up on a starship together with their memories wiped — as a TV show before it was redeveloped as a comic in 2012.
“Wynonna Earp” (Syfy)
Syfy has a number of science fiction series based on lesser known comic book titles, including the fan-favorite “Wynonna Earp,” starring Melanie Scrofano as the demon-fighting descendent of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.
“Outcast” (Cinemax)
After the massive success of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” creator Robert Kirkman went on to adapt his supernatural horror comic series “Outcast” for television. The adaptation, starring Patrick Fugit as the titular outcast, debuted on Cinemax in 2016.

Millennium #1
Writer: Joe Harris
Artist: Colin Lorimer
Colorist: Joana Lafuente
Publisher: Idw Publishing
Price: $4
My experience with the world of Chris Carter’s TV shows consists of a few scattered X-Files episodes (specifically ones written by William Gibson or starring Tony Todd) and a half hour of the Millennium pilot (also about fifteen minutes of Harsh Realm). I remember absolutely loving these things but not being able to watch more because up until I was about 16, I wasn’t allowed to watch much TV, and certainly not the scary stuff. By the time I was 16, any interest I might have had in TV was scoured away by my devoted passion to my Super Nes. As I’ve gotten older, my caution in sampling The X-Files and Millennium has been due to the size of the commitment; I know the series are intertwined and that The X-Files...

Exclusive: Breaking Bad executive producer/director Michelle MacLaren has signed a two-year exclusive first-look deal with HBO. The pay cable network has had its eye on MacLaren for a while — she has become one of the go-to directors for HBO’s flagship drama Game Of Thrones, directing four episodes over the past two seasons. She is now directing HBO’s new drama series, Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers. For her work as an executive producer and director on AMC’s Breaking Bad, MacLaren shared in the best drama Emmy Award the Vince Gilligan-created series won last year and has earned two directing Emmy nominations. She also is involved in the Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul. MacLaren, repped by ICM Partners and attorney Mitch Smelkinson, first worked with Gilligan on Harsh Realm and The X-Files, on both of which she served as a co-executive producer, making her directorial debut on The X-Files.

He played one of the most charismatic characters in TV history, so when Terry O’Quinn popped by Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) to talk about his new Fox drama Gang Related (which debuts May 22), we knew we also had to chat with him about his Emmy winning turn as John Locke on Lost. Apparently, we are not alone, as O’Quinn told us that people still stop him on the street hoping to crack the code on that character and the show in general. “That’s what people generally stop me for and talk to me about now is Lost,...

Doggett and Reyes bring a contact to Scully’s attention, one who has valuable information about the super soldiers but will only release the information to Mulder. So connections are made and Mulder is brought in to meet the man. You can see the problem already…we know it’s not going to work out because obviously David Duchovny is not going to show up. Even before The X-Files ended its nine-year run, Chris Carter was dismissed as a one-hit wonder. It’s easy to see why. His subsequent efforts — the occult-themed Millennium, the virtual reality-centered Harsh Realm, even The X-Files‘ goofy nerd brother The Lone Gunmen, which was co-created by Vince Gilligan — found few fans. Harsh Realm lasted only three episodes. Twenty years after The X-Files suggested (but didn’t show) its first UFO, news came that Carter was ready to give TV-creating another try. After revolutionizing the television landscape with The X-Files‘ pioneering direction, cinematography, and unique will-they-or-won’t-they coupling, Carter is poised to enjoy the fruits of his labors: a cottage industry of prestige cable dramas that look closer to cinema than television and a new media setting where sci-fi/fantasy reigns supreme. In his sights are an AMC drama about anti-government paranoia (sound familiar?) and a hour-long thriller on Amazon called The After that begins with the apocalypse...

Twenty years after Mulder, Scully, and Cigarette-Smoking Man entered the world, The X-Files mastermind Chris Carter remains a very busy man. During a recent conversation with Vulture to discuss the show’s anniversary — check back next week for our full Vulture Transcript — Carter surprised us with the news that he’s currently developing a series with AMC. This project is in addition to the long-gestating one-hour sci-fi drama The After, which Amazon Studios has reportedly snatched up. No stranger to divvying up his attention (remember, during the nine-season run of The X-Files, he also created Millennium, Harsh Realm, and The Lone Gunmen), Carter explained to Vulture that the idea was hatched after AMC approached him — twice — with a book and asked for his take on it. "It also owes to The X-Files and I’ve written a draft and I’m writing a second draft,” he said. When asked if...

The X-Files creator Chris Carter is to return to television with a new drama series. The After - written by Carter - is described as a thriller centred on a mysterious event and will be produced by Georgeville Television, Deadline reports. "Chris has woven his mythology magic within a very human, grounded story about the moment when we realize all of our worst fears about the world and its future," Georgeville CEO Marc Rosen said. Carter created The X-Files in 1993 and is also responsible for cult series Millennium and Harsh Realm. Last year, he was reported to be working on (more)...

Aside from the 2008 movie "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," things have been quiet from "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter in the years since his signature show came to an end in 2002. None of his other series caught on. "Millennium" was the most successful, generating acclaim but low viewership, leading to it being canceled after three seasons in 1999. "Harsh Realm" lasted only a handful of episodes that same year before getting snipped, while "X-Files" spin-off "The Lone Gunmen" made it just one season in 2001. Carter's obviously a very influential figure, and he hasn't stepped entirely away from the scene -- he had "Unique," a police thriller with a female lead and supernatural elements, set up at Media Right Capital last year as a series to write and executive produce, but ultimately nothing came of the project. In 2008, it was reported that Carter was working on a secret film...

Exclusive: The X-Files creator Chris Carter has signed with CAA. Carter had been a longtime client of Bob Broder, first at Bwcs and most recently at ICM following the agencies’ 2006 merger. After a decade away from TV, Carter last fall teamed with Mrc to shop female-driven mystery thriller spec Unique, which ultimately didn’t sell. He is attached as an executive producer to another spec, written by feature scribe Jon Bokenkamp, which is being shopped to cable networks by Sony TV. In addition to The X-Files, which ran on Fox for 9 seasons, Carter developed Harsh Realm, created Millennium and co-created the X-Files spinoff The Lone Gunmen. Since The X-Files ended its run in 2002, Carter has stayed largely out of the spotlight, only resurfacing to do the 2008 X-Files movie sequel and the upcoming thriller Fencewalker. There has been talk recently about a potential third X-Files movie.

The first TV spot for Buried is online.
Buried stars Ryan Reynolds and also features Robert Paterson (Sahara), Stephen Tobolowsky (Glee) and Samantha Mathis (Harsh Realm, Grey’s Anatomy).
In the film, Reynolds plays Paul Conroy, a truck driver working in Iraq when he is ambushed and knocked unconscious. Waking up in a coffin with nothing more than a cell phone, a lighter, and a knife, he has to find a way out before he runs out of air. The movie will no doubt be one of the better thrillers that come out this fall and is perfectly situated for Halloween viewing.
The film was directed by Rodrigo Cortes (15 Days, The Contestant,Dirt Devil) from a script by Chris Sparling. Adrián Guerra and Peter Safran are credited as producers
Buried is receiving a limited release on September the 24th and then opening across the country on October the 8th.

Lionsgate has dug up a new poster for its upcoming thriller Buried and we've got it for you below. Buried stars Ryan Reynolds and also features Robert Paterson (Sahara), Stephen Tobolowsky (Glee) and Samantha Mathis (Harsh Realm, Grey's Anatomy). It is released in select theaters on September 24th before going nationwide on October 8th.
The new poster makes the most of high praise the film has been receiving from various outlets, including Access Hollywood, comingsoon.net, USA Today and The Times newspaper in the UK. The official synopsis, which we give you below, suggests the potential for Hitchcockian suspense thanks to a story that exploits common fears of confined spaces and being buried alive.
Here is that synopsis:

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the upcoming thriller Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds. You can see it by clicking the Trailer tab above.
Buried tells of the claustrophobic ordeal of Paul Conroy after he wakes up six feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why. Life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival.
Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, Conroy's contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time. Fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

Whispers of a “Commando” remake surfaced more than a year ago, but 20th Century Fox has finally confirmed it today, with the announcement that “Training Day’s” David Ayer will be writing and directing the remake. Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the original, which found the Big Oak playing the improbably named John Matrix, a former special forces soldier who is blackmailed into killing a South American dictator, with the bad guys using his daughter (played by a young Alyssa Milano) as leverage. But Arnold being Arnold, he of course ruins the bad guy’s plans, and comes looking for them. The film ends with a wild 30-something minute gunfight where I’m pretty sure Schwarzenegger kills about 50 or so guys, or thereabouts. Obviously you don’t hire a guy like Ayer and expect him to repeat the outrageous, cartoony action of the original. Ayer not only wrote “Training Day”, but...

After being anceled in 2003, Family Guy was luckily able to come back after strong DVD sales for a fourth season. With a lot riding on the season, Seth MacFarlane and company did not disappoint and are of course still on the air.
Season four was the longest in the show's history with the 27 originally airing and the straight-to-dvd release of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story later airing as part of the fourth season.
We've put together the largest collection of Family Guy quotes from the season. Here are just some of our favorites:

Lois: Oh, no. Peter, how can they do that?
Peter: Well, unfortunately, Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that Fox has to make room for terrific shows like: Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane,...

The other day, suddenly out of the blue, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me a decapitated head by FedEx. And there it sits now, metallically grinning, on my desk.
It is the head of one of America’s favorite robots, Bender.
Ok, maybe using the word “favorite” was a little bit of an exaggeration. Favorite? Well, he’s Not RoboCop, C-3Po, R2-D2, Gort, Data, Robby the Robot, Astro Boy, the Lost In Space Robot, the Vision, Robotman, Tik-Tok, Tobor the Eighth Man, Black Maria, Metallo, K-9, Questor, Ultron, Red Tornado, a Dalek, a Borg, a Terminator or an Lmd, but certainly Bender Must be in the Top 20, err, 50 of all pop culture robots somewhere.
You remember him from Futurama. You know, Futurama, the animated Sf spoof series created by Matt Groening & David X. Cohen. The one that lasted four uneasy seasons on Fox Sunday nights, often ravaged by football overruns.

Part Gamer, part Stephen King, I've actually had my eye on Chris Hartwill's Ghost Machine for well over a year now, secretly hoping that its promise of ghostly goings on in a virtual reality game environment would offer something unique to the horror genre. Sort of like Harsh Realm but with teens if you will.
Then, last week, it was reported that the film would be dropped direct to DVD on December 22 and my hopes drooped a little bit. Now that the trailer's arrived it's hard to be too enthused, but this still looks like something I would definitely watch.
Synopsis:
Thrill-seeking military technicians and computer-game enthusiasts Tom (Faris) and Vic (Ford) recklessly smuggle a top-secret, virtual warfare training programme out of their base and into a spooky disused jail, while a vengeful spirit infiltrates the software and draws them into an all-too-real game of life and death.

Salvaged from the unpublished Starlog #375. Posted here for the record. The science fiction universe sadly salutes these fantastic talents who died earlier this year.

Ron Moore's Virtuality pilot is on Fox tonight. Refresh my memory: is this sleeping in the timeslot where Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles slept, or is this where Harsh Realm was? Here's the trailer:
Your thoughts? Reviews? What did you think?...

Writer Frank Spotnitz and actress Gabrielle Union have reunited for a new procedural drama that’s being developed at NBC. Union starred in ABC's short-lived reworking of the classic series Night Stalker, which co-starred Stuart Townsend and Spotnitz executive produced during the 2005-06 TV season. In the untitled series Union will play a detective who must race to save someone's life before it's too late. Spotnitz and Union collaborated on the idea and the project will be produced through Universal Media Studios. Spotnitz's credits include The X-Files, as well as ABC Family's recent mini Samurai Girl. He also served as an executive producer on Robbery Homicide Division, Harsh Realm and the X-Files spinoff The Lone Gunmen. Fox announced a dramatically restructured midseason lineup, radically different than the schedule they outlined over the summer. They have revived the Friday night science fiction dumping ground, placing Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse on that evening, beginning February 13, the beginning of a three-day weekend when viewership tends to drop anyway.
Other shifts sees House slip to Mondays, allowing the return of the American Idol juggernaut on Tuesdays, which makes for a marvelous lead-in to Fringe. Bones shifts from Wednesdays to Thursday pitting the series against Ugly Betty and Smallville.
The Friday night curse began with the genre-related The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. in 1993 and was following in subsequent years by Mantis (1994), Strange Luck (1995), Vr.5 (1995), Sliders (1996), Millennium (1996), The Visitor (1997), Harsh Realm (1999), Freakylinks (2000), Dark Angel (2000), The Lone Gunmen (2001), John Doe (2003), and Firefly (2003).

No, it's not Friday the 13th. But it is Halloween, and the 13th season of King of the Hill looks to be its last.
Reports are coming in that the long-running Fox comedy will not return past the 13 episodes currently in production bringing the total to something like 250. King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, has aired on the network since 1997. Although it's not the ratings getter it once was, King stalwarts such as Ain't It Cool News' Hercules tout the series as Fox's greatest comedy. Both Judge and Daniels have moved onto other projects. Judge's newest animated comedy, The Goode Family, launches on ABC midseason, while Daniels is running NBC's smash hit The Office. Judge still supplies the voice for Hank Hill on the series.
Meanwhile, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane continues to enjoy his renewed success over at Fox. Variety has announced that MacFarlane's...
