Between 1939 and 1942,dark years for French people ,Jean Boyer churned out one movie after one another :12 movies in total!Arithmetic mean: 3 works a year. All were comedies ,one of which remains memorable (mainly because of the actors :Simon and Arletty, "Circonstances Atténuantes" ).If he tried to cheer his people up-who did need that- ,then he brilliantly succeeded even though his films did not really satisfy the intellectuals.

"L'Acrobate' is an enjoyable little comedy, sometimes a bit repetitive and ponderous ,but sometimes really funny and even witty.

A butler called Monsieur Sauce (sic)has problems with one of his customers who has become amnesiac just before paying the bill .In the police station, the "thief" is welcomed with great consideration cause he was awarded the Legion D'Honneur ;Sauce who is not that much clever realizes that amnesia is a good way to get rid of a not-very-attractive lover ,particularly when you just pretend you are .It will lead him to an insane asylum where the treatment consists of showers and injections ;a series of mistaken identities make him a rich heir ,then (check the title) an acrobat in a circus.Actually the way Sauce gets away with inextricable situations is an exercise of skill just like a trapeze artist! When you have seen it,you will not have much food for thought but why deny yourself some fun?
