Even amid controversy, the show must go on.

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" is nominated for more Academy Awards this year than any other film, including nominations for Best Picture and Best Costume Design.
Although it is not costume designer Sandy Powell's first nomination - she has previously won for her work on "Shakespeare in Love," (1999) "The Aviator," (2005) and "The Young Victoria" (2010) - Powell admits she is nervous. "I don’t think there is more pressure because I’ve won before. It’s easier, in a sense, that I know what to expect. But, I also know how it feels when you’re there. You still get that same sick feeling in your gut."
We had the chance to catch up with Powell while she was in Berlin to discuss her inspiration for the costumes in "Hugo," working with the always-stylish Chloe Moretz and where she keeps her Oscars.

Before we get to the list this week, a special note: I got a very nice email this week from Jackie Keen, the wife of legendary British underground filmmaker Jeff Keen. I’ve written about Jeff a few times on Bad Lit, particularly about his troublesome situation. If you’re not familiar with Jeff’s incredible body of work, read that link and do yourself a favor and check out his official website.
This week’s Must Read is Craig Baldwin’s history and understanding of why San Francisco is such a mecca for found-footage filmmakers such as himself. The article, on the Moving Image Source website, is reprinted from the recent book Radical Light. Speaking of Radical Light, Reed Johnson of the L.A. Times previews the Los Angeles screening tour that’s accompanying the book. Also to celebrate Radical Light, Chuck Stephens of Blip Magazine reviews several films...

As I drove up the winding mountain road to Big Bear, CA in the pitch-black night, I wondered, “What’s gay about the Big Bear Horror Film Festival?” Answer: just about everything.
What I didn’t realize before arriving was that a large homo contingent would be in attendance. In fact, there were so many gays in this tiny mountain village, to write “out gay ____” before each name I mention would be a chore. So I’m going to denote all the gay up in Big Bear with a “*”.
The Backstory: Several months ago Bbhf founder Michael Coulombe* pinged me via this blog with some very preliminary info on the fest. Sensing an opportunity to spread my super-important opinions around, I offered myself up as a judge for the festival. Realizing what a publicity juggernaut this blog can be, he immediately said, “Yes!” and I was on board.

Josh Henderson, who on Desperate Housewives played Edie's motorcycle-riding, Julie-tempting nephew, is joining the CW's 90210, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Henderson will first appear during November sweeps, when the P.I. who's been on the prowl for Harry's son by Naomi's mom, Tracy, turns up a real charmer named Sean.
The new kid on the palms-lined block won't wow everyone, however.
Dixon, for one, will feel displaced by his Dad's biological boy, while a wary Debbie elects to keep her hubby's illegitimate offspring at arm's distance.
