Nothing new, but decent fun
vasc29 December 2001
Like the other reviewer said, this movie doesn't present anything new. However it has good lighting and camera work, and is fun to watch in one of those afternoons you have nothing better to do.

The lead female actress portrays a much better role than her "sidekick" Luc. Brion James delivered a nice performance even if it was a tad short. The lead villain roles were well portrayed by the respective actors.

"Spaghetti western" masquerading as film noir .........

"Farewell My Love" is nothing more than stylish nonsense, with a revenge plot seemingly lifted directly from the "spaghetti western", "Once Upon a Time in the West". There isn't one interesting character in this entire movie. Wait a minute, maybe that is because there isn't any character development in the entire movie. What it does have are annoying accents, especially from Ed Lauter and Robert Culp, annoying voice overs, annoying talk about things we already know, and annoying cartoon-like violence. In addition there are Russian and Irish stereotypes on parade that just come across as silly. Everything about the revenge plot is totally contrived, and totally unbelievable. - MERK

Formulaic and predictable action movie

Let me start by saying that there is not a moment of originality in this movie- you've seen it all before. Every bit of it is taken from other movies. You've got the revenge plot (The Crow), the inexperienced hitwoman (La Femme Nikita), a guy playing both sides of a mob war (Last Man Standing), etc. The plot basically concerns a woman in town to take revenge on the mobsters who wiped out her family. This is used as an excuse for various scenes of violence and some sex. If that's all you care about seeing, then this may be your movie. But if you're looking for a little more, then skip this one- the production values are low, and like I said, you've seen it all before in better movies. The film does have one saving grace, however- it's one of the last movies that the late great Brion James appeared in.

Its not a model of originality but...

Incredible movie. Its not a model of originality but it does manage to merge a lot of over done story lines very well. The story is interesting, and the characters are believable. I could of done with out Adam Baldwin though.

I recommend it to anyone needing with a lazy afternoon.
