Full of tears
china11 January 2005
The movie is full of tears.

This is a typical Taiwan movie. The plot is very simple. You can imagine the whole story right from the beginning. And tears never stop from the beginning to the end. (I think the director wants to sale the tissues.) In fact, people there are all not bad guys, and they could have a peaceful life. For examples, Qiu Xia could live with her son in her ex-husband's house, at least for some time. But they just 'refused' it.

The most shinning point is the little boy, around 5-6 years old. He played very good.

Suggestions: All About Ah-Long (Chinese title:You jian A Lang), which is from HongKong, performed by Chow Yun-Fat. The plot is much better than this one, while the little boy also did a good job.

This is an old movie. Watching it today, I give it 6/10.

Every child will love their mother after this film

Warning: Spoilers
Note: I may be referring to the sequel of this film entitled "My Beloved II" - Chinese "shi shang zhi you ma ma hao")

When I was younger, my parents showed me and my 2 siblings this film. They warned me that I would cry a lot, and it has been one of the few films that to this day I would never forget.

Throughout the film, the boy requests time and time again for her mother to love him, but she continuously beats her child instead, and treats him terribly. There is one scene where the boy travels for miles across the city, just so that he can see his mum at her workplace, yet when he arrives, all he receives is not a hug, not a kiss, but verbal and physical abuse. You cannot help but feel sorry for him, and that you just want to rescue him from a world of abuse and terror, but the fact that he tries again and again to requisition his mother's love is just heartbreaking.

The acting is not fantastic, but the film is more about the themes associated with maternal love and shows how a mother's love is extremely special and should not be squandered or taken for granted. In all honesty, it's a film that can only be watched once, as the film leaves a lasting impression on the mind.
