City Treasurer Benchley states that he has a statement of the city's finances up through Friday, April 11. In 1938 (when the short first aired), April 11 was a Monday. April 11 didn't fall on a Friday until 1941. The previous Friday, April 11 was in 1930.
The mayor states that the new ball park is the finest the city, state, and this great democracy of ours has ever seen. Views of the outfield and players show that the field is simply a nice municipal field, and no where near "the finest" when compared to the major league ball parks that exist is "this great democracy".
