Considered the very first original Brazilian science fiction film. Os Trapalhões na Guerra dos Planetas (1978) had been made before but is mostly a Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) parody.
Roberto Pires also wrote and directed Césio 137 - O Pesadelo de Goiânia (1990) - depicting the real life radioactive disaster that claimed four lives and contaminated thousands in 1987. Pires himself death from cancer has been attributed to exposure to radiation during the making of that movie.
Originally titled "Nuclear Shelter Alpha Beta Gama".
Embrafilmes' financing politics proved too slow for the making of this film. Thus, Roberto Pires had to sell a lot of his properties to finance production.
