The 10 Things I Hate About You cast probably didn’t know it then, but the actors in the 1999 teen rom-com would get their breakout role. In the 25 years since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has become a cult classic and a career highlight for its actors.
On the surface, 10 Things I Hate About You doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. A William Shakespeare play reworked into a teen comedy featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors? Critics didn’t fall head over heels for it in 1999, but the movie’s appeal has grown over time and attracted new generations of fans (even if sequel plans failed). And if the 10 Things I Hate About You cast was unknown then, now there is no mistaking the talent of stars like Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Jersey Shore star Nicole Polizzi is commonly known as Snooki among her fanbase. But after a while, she wanted to distance herself from the very name she made for herself.
Why Nicole Polizzi wanted to be done with Snooki Nicole Snooki Polizzi | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/WireImage
Although Jersey Shore made the nickname popular, Polizzi was actually known as Snooki far before her reality show was conceived. It wasn’t even her famous partying lifestyle that originated the moniker. She named herself after a character in the movie Save the Last Dance. But in an interview with Vulture, she admitted that the nickname didn’t really take off until Jersey Shore.
“Before the show, no one really called me ‘Snooki.’ They were looking for nicknames on the application. One of my girlfriends used to call me that, just to be funny, so I wrote that down. Then I was like, ‘Oh, s***.’ Now that it’s stuck,...

Could you describe the plot of the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance" while simultaneously performing Julia Stiles' final dance from the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance"? Not many people can answer "yes" to this questions, but one person who can is "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chloe Fineman, who did just that on this weekend's episode. She was even joined for the final portion of the dance by Julia Stiles herself, in a surprise cameo.
"Save the Last Dance" received mixed reviews when it was first released, and in the two decades since the "street ballet" dance that Stiles' character performs in her successful audition for Juilliard has become a recurring target of internet mockery. Still, whether you love, hate, or have never seen "Save the Last Dance," there's no denying that its $131.7 million box office gross helped reignite the Hollywood trend of dance movies. The Weekend Update desk pieces have felt a little stale lately, so it’s great to see Chloe Fineman stepping up to bring a little energy to hers. And it doesn’t hurt that her impersonation gets a lift from the actual person she’s impersonating — Julia Stiles.
The segment doesn’t start like the usual Update segment: Fineman doesn’t sit next to either Colin Jost or Michael Che. Instead, she’s in front of the desk wearing an alluring Santa-themed nightgown. “The sexiest gift you can give your partner is trying something new in the bedroom,” she says.

Julia Stiles was a surprise guest on Saturday Night Live showing up during Weekend Update for a collaboration with Chloe Fineman.
Colin Jost sets up the bit by announcing Fineman has some intimate gift ideas to share for that special someone in your life as the holidays are around the corner. To do so, strangely, Fineman needs demonstrate it from in front of the news desk.
“I only have one sexy gift idea and I kind of have to demonstrate it. The sexiest gift you can give your partner is to try something new in the bedroom,” she teased Jost and Michael Che.
Her gift was a reenactment of the final dance Stiles performs at the end of Save the Last Dance. Fineman is dressed in all black just as Sara (Stiles) did in the 2001 film directed by Thomas Carter and co-starring Sean Patrick Thomas.

Julia Stiles is feeling nostalgic!
The 42-year-old actress referenced not one, but two of her most iconic roles during appearances this week.
While onstage at the Mash-Up Americans Book Festival in New York City on Wednesday (December 6), Julia revisited the iconic poem she recites in her 1999 classic 10 Things I Hate About You.
She got notably emotional while repeating the final lines – “But mostly, I hate the way I don’t hate you, not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.” In the movie, the poem was about her relationship with the late Heath Leger‘s character.
That was just a warm-up for Julia though, who got into character for another role during a cameo on Saturday Night Live.

10 Things I Hate About Julia Stiles
I hate that her idgaf attitude was not present in more 90s teen rom coms.
I hate that I totally forgot about the movie Save The Last Dance.
I hate that she doesn’t get the respect she deserves.
I hate that I thought she was in that movie Swimfan.
I hate that she got stuck doing generic rom coms.
I hate that her character in the Jason Bourne franchise never got a spin-off.
I hate that I really haven’t seen much of her later work.
I hate that she tricked me into liking Shakespeare as a teen.
But most of all, I hate the way I don’t hate her – not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all. Oh, and I hate that I don’t know what the heck happened to her?
So let’s find out: Wtf Happened to.

Kerry Washington explains in her new memoir, “Thicker Than Water,” that she actively rejected playing the “white girl’s best friend” after starring in “Against the Ropes,” the 2004 boxing drama headlined by Meg Ryan and Omar Epps. The film starred Ryan as Jackie Kallen, the first woman to achieve success as a boxing manager. Washington played Jackie’s best friend, a receptionist named Renee.
“In it, I played [Meg Ryan’s] coworker and confidante – this was becoming a new niche for me, the white girl’s best friend,” Washington writes (via Entertainment Weekly).
As Washington remembers, “Against the Ropes” was her third project in a row where she was playing the best friend to the white female lead. First came 2001’s “Save the Last Dance,” in which was Julia Stiles’ Bff, then she shot the scrapped pilot for the 2004 Fox dramedy series “Wonderfalls,” where she was the best friend of Caroline Dhavernas’ main character.

The bombshells are exploding in Kerry Washington’s new memoir, Thicker Than Water, available now on bookshelves and digital platforms.
The profoundly personal book dives deep into the very private life of the Emmy-winning actress, which was propelled by discovering her father was not biologically related to the star.
Now, she’s pulling back the layers of her story and sharing them with the world to aid others in personal healing. We’ll visit some of the book’s most significant revelations below.
Panic Attacks Were A Norm In Her Childhood
Brought on by heated arguments between her parents – Valerie, a professor, and Earl, a real estate agent – caused paralyzing panic attacks and anxiety to swarm her childhood.
“I was dizzied with terror, no ground beneath me; it was crazy-making, endless. And sad,” she shares.

The burnout associated with gifted kid syndrome — the crushing realization that, after constant praise and validation as a child, you’re not as special as everybody told you that you were — has become a self-diagnosed internet ailment of the most annoying people you know, determined to blame their obnoxious high standards on their parents and teachers. It’s a well-worn screen trope, whether through countless “yep, that’s me, you probably are wondering how I ended up here”–style biopics of real-life geniuses to the Rachel Berry brand of insufferable know-it-alls.
Perhaps that explains how initially unlikeable Marguerite is, then: a dazzlingly smart student of mathematics at the prestige École Normale Supérieure, whose three year quest to make a field-shattering breakthrough ends in humiliation, disbelief, and the childish instinct to retreat into a hole. French-Swedish director Anna Novion crafts a film that plots its coordinates in a familiar territory — that...

Gabrielle Union says the fictional all-Black cheerleading group known as the Clovers in “Bring It On” were only included in a third of the now classic film because they significantly appealed to test audiences – and filmmakers had shot “fake” scenes for the trailer to make it seem like they’d be in the film more.
It seems like that “Bring It On” subtext happened behind the scenes, as Union — who played Isis in the movie — shared how the Black cheerleading team originally wasn’t given the same screen time as the Toros, the predominately white cheerleading squad.
“The Clovers were only in like a third of the movie, and when they started showing it to test audiences, The Clovers tested through the roof,” Union told Noah Callahan-Bever on the latest episode of Bloomberg’s original series “Idea Generation.”

Kerry Washington has no reservations about returning to her past restaurant job if Hollywood is only offering harmful roles when it comes to representation.
The “Scandal” alum has stood by her convictions for decades, and recently told Marie Claire in a cover story that she approaches her career fearlessly.
“Even in the beginning of my career, I would say I’d rather work another shift at the restaurant than do a movie that is going to be bad for women or Black people,” Washington said. “Part of being an artist, being a creative person, is constantly being willing to be a beginner and do things you’ve never done, be in situations you’ve never been, stretch, grow. I’m so attracted to that kind of work, but it is also so fucking scary.”
Washington reflected on leading hit ABC Shonda Rhimes-produced series “Scandal” as being “part of something transformative and culturally significant.

Prior to donning a thong as Magic Mike, a 25-year-old Channing Tatum helped launch a different film franchise about a guy who feels the rhythm.
The star and producer of Magic Mike’s Last Dance — due out from Warner Bros. on Feb. 10 and the threequel to 2012’s Magic Mike, which was loosely based on Tatum’s own experiences as a stripper — had a few bit parts under his belt when he was cast as the male lead in 2006’s Step Up. Anne Fletcher’s directorial debut focused on troublemaking teen Tyler (Tatum), who is caught vandalizing a tony performing arts school and enlisted to help dance student Nora, played by Jenna Dewan, with her senior recital. Erik Feig, head of production at Summit Entertainment, met with writer Duane Adler (Save the Last Dance) and pitched a loose idea about a high school for aspiring performers.

Sza finally dropped her long-awaited song “Shirt”, plus an accompanying visualizer for the new track.
It’s been roughly two years since the R&b singer first teased the song, which she said marks the beginning of new music: “It’s album time baby. Y’all gonna get it all. New era starts now.”
The graphic music video, directed by Dave Meyers, stars Sza alongside “Atlanta” and “Judas and the Black Messiah” actor Lakeith Stanfield as a couple who go on a killing spree, committing violent, ruthless crimes. The video nods to numerous classic films like 1971’s “Shaft” and several Quentin Tarantino projects.

We have Denzel Washington’s single teardrop. We have Viola Davis’ runny nose. And now, we have Danielle Deadwyler’s lip quiver, expertly executed in Chinonye Chukwu’s deeply moving drama “Till.” Another best actress contender emerges although I wish the film could rise to the level of Deadwyler’s performance.
The sturdy drama follows Mamie Till-Mobley (Deadwyler), the mother of Emmett Till, whose abduction and lynching in 1955 sparked global outrage and served as an important catalyst in the civil rights movement. “Till” charts Mamie’s grief, as well as her pursuit of justice. But getting people to see a movie about such a horrific event will be a tough sell, even if the film avoids depicting much of the brutality of Emmett Till’s killing.

Another summer of content has come and gone in the streaming world. And to celebrate the arrival of fall, Netflix is filling its list of new releases for September 2022 with, what else? More content!

With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).
Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

His star continued to shine in 2001 when he landed a starring role in the movie Save the Last Dance. For some stars, reflecting back on their first film roles—the parts they accepted when turning down a job wasn't exactly an option—is entirely cringe-worthy, an exercise in humility. (See: George Clooney any time he discusses 1997's Batman & Robin.) And while Julia Stiles admits that seeing her teenage self on-screen in flicks like 10 Things I Hate About You and Save the Last Dance isn't the easiest, she certainly doesn't hate her earliest fare.
