An interesting documentary that combines the talents of 3 Disney legends
Atreyu_II22 February 2008
"Man, Monsters and Mysteries" is a small but well done documentary about man's intriguing questions about monsters, mysteries and even the enigmatic Loch Ness monster.

This is a fully live-action documentary with only one animated character: Nessie (the Loch Ness monster). It is included as an extra on "Pete's Dragon" DVD. A clever selection, because "Pete's Dragon" is a live-action movie with just one animated character - by here we can see the similarities between that movie and this documentary (and how related they are).

The legend of the Loch Ness monster comes from Scotland, so this short documentary naturally takes us to Scotland. It teaches us a bit about man, monsters and mysteries (as its title suggests) and answers us some of the questions about these mythical creatures. At the same time, it shows us beautiful Scottish landscapes and combines live-action with Disney's animation.

This was directed by Les Clark (one of Disney's legendary directors) and features the voices of 2 legendary Disney artists: Sebastian Cabot as the narrator and Sterling Holloway as Nessie. Sterling Holloway's voice is one of cinema's most recognizable voices.

Overall, this is something different from what we are used to see on Disney.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

A Walt Disney Short Subject.

Through the millennia mankind has always been interested in - and afraid of - the unknown. His imagination has allowed him to invent colorful explanations for natural phenomena, but still some intriguing questions linger.

MAN, MONSTERS AND MYSTERIES is an entertaining little film which briefly looks at the history of man's belief in fantastic creatures and then spends the bulk of the remaining time exploring one of the greatest mysteries of all - the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. A good deal of information is given, both legendary & factual, eyewitnesses are heard from, scientific evidence is reviewed and the viewers are allowed to form their own conclusions.

The film is helped tremendously by the talents of Sebastian Cabot as the friendly narrator and Sterling Holloway as the voice of the animated Nessie.
