An intriguing little experiment
rdoyle2915 October 2022
Nadine Ballot is suspended from school for a day for not paying attention. She spends the day wandering around Paris and talking to men she meets.

First is Jean-Claude Darnal, a university student who hits on her pretty hard. She tries to convince him to run off with her immediately, but he (quite reasonably) won't.

Next is Modeste Landry, a young African immigrant she knows. They wander around a science museum while he convinces her that she really doesn't understand the "adventure" she was seeking with Darnal.

Finally, she meets older research scientist Jean-Marc Simon who takes her home, feeds her whiskey and talks about the relationship between success, wealth and power.

A fairly short Parisian ethnographic experiment by Jean Rouch where the participants are clearly playing loose variations on themselves and letting their perspectives on life bump into each other.
