One of the Greatest Documentaries ever made
This is one of the most powerful films ever made..The first half, shows the rise of Nazi Germany..It starts at the end of WWI,then it allows the viewer to feel the distress and loss of the German people, as they groped for something, or someone to lead them..about a third of the film, has portions of "Triumph of the Will" intermixed in its footage. The first part of the film, is so strong and powerful, I used to show it to high school classes, that the students were screaming "Heil Hitler by the break.
Another part of this film I will never forget is when the narrator discusses the program of the Nazi Party. "Hate, Hate, and More Hate", and "Absolute Power for one person, Adolph Hitler."
The second part of the film, shows the allies coming back and defeating the Germans.. Its use of sound, light, and music are unforgettable..At first I showed a 16mm print, and then eventually a video..I couldn't believe the response of the students to the film...Only draw back, to be honest, about 3 or 4 short scenes are staged , but the rest is real documentary film making at its best (they couldn't film the actual attempt on Hitler's life, obviously, that had to be staged, as are about 60 to 90 other seconds of this great film.. I cannot say enough about this film..It is perfect for any teacher trying to give students a feeling of how Hitler came to power and was eventually was defeated. Stuart
