Aided by a mystic Shaman, Dar journeys to Valhalla, the place of memories, where he comes to terms with the savage slaughter of his Sula tribe at the hands of King Zad's Terron armies.
In the Territories, King Zad issues a decree to his vassals: that they must sacrifice 5 men each month to his new beast. The beast is none other than the Minotaur of legend, a gift to King Zad from the Ancient One.
Dar and Tao travel in the Downs to find macadamia nuts for those rascally ferrets. On their way, they happen upon a group of pilgrims on their way to find answers concerning life and death.
Dar meets a strange amphibious woman named Atlantia who is part of a mute ancient race. He must communicate with her and then gain her help to save Tao's life.
Among a tribe whose tales tell of protecting ancestors prowling the sea as dolphins, one mysterious dolphin helps Dar uncover a murderer in the guise of a friend.
The Sorceress is surprised when Sharak appears before her. The bird leads her on a journey that ends in the Burning Forest. The bird that she believed to be Sharak transforms into the Black Apparition - who is now her captor!
Terror strikes in the Mydlands and even the Terrons are running scared. The silent fear of the animals draws Dar to discover the skeletal remains of two fallen Terrons, killed by two arrows and vines that capture and dissolve their victims.
Violence erupts when two new races enter the Territories. Dar and Tao get caught up in the struggle as these groups challenge Zad and his Terrons for supremacy.
Tao returns to his homeland of Xinca to find it is now under the rule of the evil Priest, Maloc. Meanwhile a new people, the Nords, guided by the warrior-guide Arina, attack and rout the Terrons.
A lion cub goes in search of the Beastmaster to save his mother from the clutches of the evil despot, Arkon. Dar then goes on to battle the despot to save an entire village from his evil forces.
