Best child acting in years...
This film, while shot from a transgendered camera, tells the story of a liminalized public space. The politic of the major players is their downfalls, tracing out a remarkable arc of mise en scene in the sketch streets of London. Community is indeed performed, by dint of its project, which seeks to essentialize a historical diegetic.
The champion of this film is the sulking, preening 10-year old Ishan Bhabha, the young Indo-Jewish starlet who makes his debut here. The camera takes every opportunity to portray this young rapscallion as a dark, swarthy other, a delicate cherry blossom writ large. The final, climactic hash bar scene, in which Bhabha utters the phrase, "Daddy, I agree, but I'm busy now, I just got to the base, and there are a lot of dudes here!" will forever echo in the hearts and minds of marginalized London youths.
