Painter M.F. Hussain made his debut as an actor in this film, portraying himself and facing the camera for the first time on 1 August 1995. He was on a set depicting an art gallery, where his own paintings were displayed as a backdrop.
The film was launched as "Prem Pooja" in 1993 with Rishi Kapoor (Replaced Anil Kapoor), Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri had also recorded 2 songs in her own voice. The film got stalled for 2 years but emerged with a new star cast. Sanjay Kapoor replaced Rishi Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna replaced Salman Khan.
Madhuri Dixit previously worked with Akshay Khanna's father Vinod Khanna in Dayavan (1988) and Maha-Sangram (1990). Akshay Khanna would reunite with her 10 years later in Aaja Nachle (2007).
The songs were shot in Vancouver and White Rock, British Columbia, Canada in the summer of 1996. Akshaye Khanna'a debut film Himalay Putra was yet to release. Hundred's of NRI's came to visit the film's sets due to Madhuri Dixit's stardom. Upon arriving on the sets they would discover that Madhuri's co star was Vinod Khanna's handsome son Akshaye Khanna. Vinod Khanna had a major fan following in British Columbia Canada and the fans greeted Akshaye with warmth and love.
The song " Baby Don't Break My Heart" was sampled from Johnny Zee aka Taz of Stereo Nation's song "Larl Larl Boleeyan". The original song was released in the album Spirits of Rhythm (1994).
