This is a pathetic story. A was compelled to act in a circus, and an accident is the starting of her love story. The young mayor had another sweetheart, however, and the impression of the story in making him leave this other girl is not pleasant. It would have been an improvement to have allowed the young mayor to fall in love with the circus girl before he had other implied obligations. This may be a hypercritical suggestion, but the fact remains that these stories which leave one woman or one man to mourn the loss of lover or sweetheart are not altogether pleasant. Sometimes the story makes this necessary, but this one would not be marred by changing it so that no sweetheart is bereft, while the unfortunate circus girl could be made happy, as she is now. - The Moving Picture World, April 22, 1911
