A Good Short Film
ah_choung-13 November 2018
I remember this short film being advertised on HBO. I missed the original run on TV and have been searching for this movie for over 25 year and watched it for the first time last night on Amazon. I must say that even though a lot of the film looks very dated with the cinematography and soundtrack, the story itself is very relevant for today and kept me engaged. The play like feel makes the actors and the dialogue are the focus of the piece. My hope is that this gets a limited release in theaters or at a film festival. Good movie.

Excellent contemporary depiction of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ!
onewayofpa9 September 2001
It is often difficult to find material suitable for both youth groups and adults, especially prominently featuring an African-American as Jesus Christ, concerning the importance of living morally and ethically in a society that is constantly making it more acceptable to do wrong. Individuals who embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ of any ethnicity will find encouragement for the mission of spreading the Gospel Message so that during the Rapture no one will be left behind. My hope is to find a retailer who currently stocks the video so that it may be added to my collection, along with the now popularized series Left Behind (which renewed my interest in finding this video).

Modern Understanding...
ayomisst164 June 2011
In today's society where everything is fast, fast, fast and super visual, the depiction of Jesus returning in modern day clothing gave an alternative look at how we TRULY see ourselves WITH Jesus in our hearts. It was a test of faith for the naysayers and of course, the non-believers of the world. Believers get saved, but when Jesus actually returns in the flesh, who is to say, he will return looking like the Jesus we have envisioned for centuries passed...wearing the long loose robe tied with a twisted rope. This movie was a wake up call for the possibility of the Messiah returning looking like YOU and/or ME...wearing jeans a tee shirt so that we can identify with him. Yet, the words he spoke were not believed...just as they were not in Biblical times. Awesome depiction of how some things change, but some remain the same with human nature. Jesus may have looked modern, but his words remained true to the word of God and his healing powers and message to the world never changed. Strong message delivered by a strong actor. Underwood was the perfect actor for this piece. Then he went on to be the voice of Jesus in the audio bible called "The Bible Experience"...AWESOME!!!I saw The Second Coming on VHS and it was purchased in Harlem, NYC from a Black Independent Film distributor located in the State Building on 125th Street. If I get more info, I will repost.

The Second Coming

I totally agree with the first two reviewers. This was an excellent film. I too viewed it in 1992 on VHS and I have been looking for it for over 10 years now. It seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. Hmmmm, I wonder why? And after listening to Blair on the Bible Experience series just really touched me. If this movie can not be found or put back out for distribution, I would really like to see a remake of this film still starring Blair Underwood. I think Tyler Perry should be the one to produce this film and perhaps include many of the actors/actresses that were also on the Bible Experience. Or just make the Bible Experience come to life. Our people really needs to see this especially our youth.
