Have said quite a number of times over the years about being a big fan of animation for as long as can be remembered with a real effort made to appreciate animations from all decades and styles. If there is a preference, it is the more traditional animation styles and from the older years (though there has been some fantastic animations in recent years). Have also never had any bias against any wartime cartoons that has often been dismissed as propaganda, have always tried to not be as dismissive as that.
'Nimbus Libere' however is an instance where it is difficult not to be. As far as wartime "propaganda" cartoons go, this is as bad as it can possibly get. When it comes to animation in its own right, it is one of the worst seen in a long time, which is saying quite a lot seeing as most animation seen regularly in recent years has often been only mediocre at worst rather than being downright bad. The latter belonging to 'Nimbus Libere'. This is being said with regret.
The only redeeming merit here is the music score, which has a lot of character and atmosphere and also has the energy that is absent everywhere else.
Unlike most other animations, 'Nimbus Libere' is not one of the cartoons where the animation is not a redeeming quality. Actually to me the animation was rather cheap and ugly looking with some stereotypical character designs going on. The cartoon is a disaster pretty much when it comes to the writing for the characters. It includes timeless popular characters at the time, ones that were very much loved by audiences, ones who have never harmed anybody being treated as if those that made it hated the characters and were deliberately trying to discredit them. The stereotypical and anti-semitic characterisation for the allies, visually and in writing, jars badly and is distasteful.
It is also not funny at all, it doesn't even reach semi-amusing level, not only is it unfunny to a painful degree some of it is borderline sadistic. It makes the common mistake that most wartime cartoons made in being heavy-handed, and doing so worse than most, where what it was trying to say had the subtlety of a sledgehammer and was also pretty vague this time. The story is practically non existent and incredibly dull and it was never clear what its goal or point was.
Overall, very poor. 2/10.
