"Follow Me Follow You" is one of those naturalistic, slice-of-life British films that were seemingly in infinite supply in the '70s and '80s. It reminded me of "I Want to Be Famous" and "Bloody Kids", but isn't as interesting as either.
The short movie depicts the relationship between two boys of about fourteen, one whose dad owns the factory the other's dad works at, and employs a lot of other people in the area.
Due to some struggle at the place of business, the boy's father might sell the factory and move his family away, or he might not, and his indecision has resulted in the firing of a bunch of the other boys' dads. This puts a strain on the central relationship between the two boys.
The one with a rich dad is quiet and shy, and gets bullied due to who his father is. The other one is more popular and outgoing, and there is what seems like a homoerotic subtext between the two characters, which is never addressed.
The movie doesn't really go anywhere interesting. It does feel realistic, though a lot of the acting is poor and undercuts that.
There is a surprising moment of "rear nudity" where the shy boy gets out of bed, strips off his pyjama bottoms and puts his underpants on. I wonder why they included that.
