Cheating On Him With Him
boblipton15 October 2019
Leon Errol and new wife Marion Martin are very lovey-dovey. He comes home not only for dinner, but for lunch. Because he is working in a movie playing several roles, he comes home in make-up and costume. What the snoopy neighbors see, however, is that several different gentlemen are calling on her with much smooching. Eventually, they tell Leon.

It's a nice, silly short in Leon's long-running series for RKO, albeit one without much in the way of Errol's usual tics and slapstick falls..... until the end, of course. He does get to use a variety of voices and accents, including one bit where he does a fine imitiation of W.C. Fields. It's a very nice progression of gags that ends, as things usually doLeon, with him getting the worst of it.

Leon Errol takes over the title of "The Man of Many Faces".

Warning: Spoilers
The great Leon is joined here by Marion Martin, the blonde bombshell character actress who would appear as the vixen in two "Mexican Spitfire" films. She's the new wife of Errol's veteran character actor, delighted by her aging husband's showing up to romance her in various disguises during his work day. Their very nosy neighbors believe that the buxom Ms. Martin is canoodeling while he's at work, and when they tell Errol, he doesn't put two and two together.

Yep, Errol's Lord Epping character appears here as do other impressions by the talented Leon who is amazingly funny in spite of having done this hundreds of times before. The fact that he doesn't put two and two together is a bit absurd, but somehow, the plot manages to pull it off. Martin as always is a delight, having been a terrific second player in dozens of films that are now classics. This is filled with slapstick, but somehow as good as this is, the ending is a letdown.
