Pretty poor for a national park documentary
rgcustomer29 May 2010
I saw this film via NFB's own website.

The film is not that good. While it was interesting to learn some things about Kluane, it didn't make up for enduring the film itself.

After watching it, I expected to learn that it was made in the 1960s. But apparently it's an 80s film. There's just no excuse for it being that bad, technically.

But the tools aren't the only problem. The narration usually has nothing whatever to do with the visuals on the screen, which appear to have been almost randomly and jarringly edited together. Also, there are long long pauses where nothing happens. This could have been a much better film if kept to about half an hour.

I think at best, this is a somewhat useful historical document.

But as a film about a national park, it is certainly ready to be remade. Today's tools permit HD widescreen, and much smoother camera-work. And unless Kluane really is a muddy-colour place, I expected the colour (where it exists there) would have been much more vibrant.
