A year after the Election That Shocked The World, Donald Trump has permeated almost every ounce of popular culture — especially television. Just about everything on the small screen these days ends up being interpreted through a political lens. Even things that once weren’t politicized have now been thrust into that world.
That’s probably not surprising, given that the President of the United States is someone who has been obsessed with ratings, and winning an Emmy, over the years. He’s someone who spends all day consuming — and tweeting about — cable TV news, and often treats big announcements like he’s revealing the winner on “The Apprentice.” And that’s led to real-life storylines that would be dismissed as too outlandish or unbelievable if they were actually written on the page.
“This election happens and you have to reevaluate everything,” “Royal Pains” executive producer Michael Rauch said this summer...

The premise of “No Activity” is so simple it’s dangerous. The police are stuck in an extended waiting game with a drug cartel. With the bad guys’ plan stalled, the cops have nothing to do but sit in their unmarked cruiser and keep an eye on their hideout. The two partners can only talk to each other to pass the time, and the same is true for the criminals on the inside and the dispatchers back at the station.
In other words, nothing happens. There’s literally no activity (barring the final moments of the first two episodes), and the entire comedy relies on banter between various partners to carry the show.
Improbably, it works. Buoyed by strong comedic performances from likable personalities, both new and familiar, and the sharp dialogue courtesy of series creator Trent O’Donnell and star Patrick Brammall, “No Activity” is a low-key pleasure. It goes down easy,...

Well, that was a fun little brain-bender of a Star Trek: Discovery episode, wasn’t it? (Harry Mudd plus a repeating time loop is a pretty reliable formula for quality, after all.)
Burnham is feeling more at home on the Discovery, and even experiencing some unfamiliar feelings towards new crew addition Lt. Ash Tyler. (“I find him… intriguing,” she narrates.) She still feels awkward at a crew party, but her roomie Tilly is letting loose, playing beer pong and confessing, “I’m kind of going through a musician phase right now.” (You go, Tilly!) 'Tis the season to look fabulously festive!

She let the dress do all the talking by keeping her hair and makeup simple, opting for a center-part for her new shoulder-length bob and pretty pink lips, and accessorizing with understated drop-down silver ball earrings. As for the president, he looked quite dapper himself in a black suit and bow tie.

Welcome, friends, to HitFix's MTV Video Music Awards 2014 live-blog. Earlier today I was watching Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon and it was the "Homerpalooza" episode, which begins with Homer lamenting that he's no longer hip to the contemporary music scene. Marge tells him not to worry. "Record stores have always seemed crazy to me," she declares. "Music is none of my business." Well, music is none of my business. Artists who aren't "American Idol" veterans or who haven't appeared on "American Idol" are none of my business. Actually, I take that back. I also know people who were on "X Factor," which is why I know who Fifth Harmony and Demi Lovato are. But with HitFix's actual qualified music staffers doing breakout stories and reviews of performances, I get to do a live-blog even though I know who none of these people are. Follow along and make fun of my musical ignorance.

Omar Epps, who plays Dr. Foreman, told Fox All Access that these guest stars are great for the show, and that sometimes even the cast gets star struck. November is here, and you probably know what that means for television: Sweeps! It’s that bountiful time of the TV season when the networks try to ramp up viewership as much as possible so they can set their advertising prices for the year. All of which means means we’ll see crazy guest stars! Specials! Awards shows! Big interviews! For example, Cher is going on 20/20 to talk Burlesque Nov. 19; ABC is airing the Country Music Awards on Nov. 10; Oprah will sit down with the Jackson clan on Nov. 8; and Gwyneth Paltrow, well, she’s appearing on both the CMAs on Nov.
