"Homeboys" This documentary released in 1979 by Focal Point Productions is not an exception as for as being a forgotten film. The bunch of forgotten films is very large, but if we stop to look through it, we'll find, there, some of the most relevant films ever made.

"Homeboys" is one of these films; it was conceived by 3 young film makers with huge talent and a clear perception of time and urban life. When the film was made, the world was still a teenager with its conflicts being resolved with God's parental supervision. Good has always been the same, but evil progresses into more evil.

The young film makers, Bill Yahraus, Christine Burrill and David Davis, were able to connect with the Chicano gang members of Cuatro Flats, a housing project in East Los Angeles. The film captures a state of social awareness, pride and self respect, among the 'homeboys', revealing that the general sentiment of the young people, at the time, was the same, inside or outside of a gang.

Though "Homeboys" was not intended to romanticize gang activity, it's impossible to take romance out of the film because time and content blended, in a special way, through its narrative filled with unexpected beauty. The film is a vivid reminder that a gang member is someone's son or daughter living in a bad world, where God's being forgotten. MAYUTO CORREA
