General Wheeler and Secretary Alger (1898)
This film clocks in at around twenty-seconds but I must admit that I really enjoyed it. The camera is stations and capturing three men standing across a road. The viewer is focused on the men when suddenly a group of horses come racing by the camera. Then the men walk across the road and back towards the camera. This film is interesting because it gives you footage of the two men in the title but I really thought it was rather clever in how it made you focus on one thing only to then have something else come rushing at the screen.
This film and many others like it can be viewed at The Library of Congress.
