One of the top movies of the year!
jasperpinstripes25 September 2002
'Monkey and Another, Boxing' is easily in my top 10 list for this year's movies. Although given strong competition both commercially and artistically by the 'Duncan' saga, 'Monkey' is clearly the superior film and and should be counted among the classics. Released during the summer blockbuster season, many critics lumped it in with the testosterone-fueled 'Men Boxing', dismissing them both as another film industry fad. While this critique aptly describes 'Men' , 'Monkey' is a subtle characterization of the developing tensions that would eventually culminate in the Spanish-American War at the end of the decade. 'Monkey and Another, Boxing' is simply one of the best examples of filmmaking for this year.

Tough, gentle and strong

An early classic of the action genre, "Monkey and Another, Boxing" shows what happens to the delicate relationship between a man and beast as the beast kicks the s*** out of him. As good as or better than Rocky II, III, IV.

You got this one right: ROCKIN'!

I agree. "Monkey and Another, Boxing" is the most complete, artistically honed (but not overly-dramatic) work of the year. The Duncan saga, albeit a triumph in its own right, just can't compare to the character development and in-your-face action sequences of "Monkey and Another." This flick grabs a hold of you and never lets go!
