Just like Dr. Logan, Waxwork Records has been keeping busy with new vinyl horror score releases this year, and now they're resurrecting two favorites as re-issues with a slightly new look: George A. Romero's Day of the Dead and Sam Raimi's Darkman:
Press Release: Waxwork Records is beyond thrilled to present George A. Romero’s Day Of The Dead Original Motion Picture Score on deluxe double vinyl. Originally released by Waxwork in 2013 and 2014, and selling out almost immediately, the score to George A. Romero’s Day Of The Dead by composer John Harrison (Creepshow, Tales From The Dark Side) is 100% synth driven, dark, and blends elements of tropical compositions and atonal, droning electronic cues.
In 2013, Waxwork and composer John Harrison unearthed the original, lost 1985 master tapes containing the complete Day Of The Dead film score from the attic of a recording studio in Pittsburgh, Pa. After painstakingly restoring,...

“You made me swallow my gum! That’s going to be in my digestive tract for seven years!”
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World plays midnights this weekend (September 29th and 30th) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.
Take every genre that can be adapted into film, then go slightly beyond that, and you may find the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. British director Edgar Wright, after Shawn Of The Dead and before The World’S End, adapted Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Oni Press comic book of the same name about the eponymous slacker rocker and his colorful quest to defeat his dream girl’s seven evil ex-boyfriends. Wright captured the theme of the comic book, mixed in an aggressive visual style inspired by video games, amplified musical exchanges so they resonated like a live concert, and applied the physical laws of a Loony Tunes Cartoon.

Doctor Who series 10 strikes gold with Knock Knock - and there were some interesting references in it, too...
This article contains lots of spoilers for Doctor Who.

Knock, Knock is a real treat - a spooky, atmospheric tale with an emotional core and some brilliant guest performances. And in a sense it’s a real treat for this writer too, as it’s one of those Doctor Who episodes that’s so fresh and unlike anything the series has done before in its 54-year history (intentionally or otherwise) that this article is significantly shorter than usual; we hope that’s okay. But as ever, if you think you’ve spotted something we’ve missed, please do leave it in the comments below...

“A fragment of life from another world, brought to us by Death himself.” An exquisite addition to the Court of the Dead series, Shard: Mortal Trespasser is a new Premium Format figure from Sideshow Collectibles, and they sent one our way to check out. After taking the time to look over and display the new Premium Format figure, fans can rest assured that this depiction of the Underworld’s first mortal is a worthy addition to the high-end Court of the Dead collectibles.
Upon receiving the figure, right away I notice that the box is remarkable, with fine details highlighted in gloss upon a full matte finish. There is a tasteful use of red and gold metallic that adds a premium polish to this premium figure.
Opening the package, I am greeted with a thank you card and a carefully packed and secure piece. Overall, the figure is easy to assemble,...

From on-rails shooter House Of The Dead came the finest typing tutor videogame of all time...
When Sega first released The House Of The Dead into arcades in 1996, and subsequently onto the much-loved Dreamcast console a year or two later, there were few signs that it would give mutate and give Mavis Beacon a run for its money. The original game – and its sequels - was an on-rails light gun shooter. You pointed your pretend gun at the screen, you shot zombies, stress melted away almost as fast as the coins left your pocket. Until it got to the really hard bits and boss battles. Subsequent sequels would follow a similar pattern, until enthusiasm for zombie-blasting lightgun games seemed to peter out.
But before it petered out, it took one of the strangest left turns in videogaming history (I don’t say that lightly), as House Of The Dead...

Joining the Queen of the Dead and Death's Siren, Xiall, The Great Osteomancer is the latest addition to Sideshow Collectibles' growing line of Court of the Dead Premium Format Figures. After spending a couple of weeks with her thanks to Sideshow sending one my way, I must say that she’s a magnificent addition to any horror collection.
In the world of Sideshow's Court of the Dead, Xiall is the leader of the Bone faction, and it's said that she "envisions a single path that will ensure the Underworld’s absolute protection against any and all celestial threats." In contrast to the impulsive Flesh faction and the ever-wandering Spirit followers, Xiall enforces ancient traditions with rigid discipline and a sturdy determination to uphold the high standards upheld by Death’s most devoted children. Despite their differences, the factions are somewhat united by their powerful abilities. A master of osteomancy, Xiall...

Gary Oldman talked up his role as former British prime minister Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, one of several titles on a 2017 slate Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski called “the best we’ve ever had.”
Oldman admitted he initially found the prospect of portraying the wartime leader intimidating, yet judging from footage, Joe Wright’s latest collaboration with Working Title and Focus after Anna Karenina, Atonement and Pride & Prejudice could become an awards season heavyweight when it opens in November.
“Winston was a hard one,” the British actor, who was transformed after more than three hours in make-up each day, said. “It’s a lot of wrap your head around. Not only the physical [transformation] but here was a man who was hailed as arguably the greatest Briton that ever lived. Even Death yearns to feel love, and in Sideshow Collectibles' new "Love You to Death" premium art print by David Palumbo—a new addition to their Court of the Dead line—the unique relationship between Gethsemoni and Death himself takes center stage.

In UK cinemas from today, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter continues the long-running story of Alice (Milla Jovovich), the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
With that in mind, here’s a list of the top 5 video games featuring zombies:
Left 4 Dead (2008, PC/Mac/XBox 360)
Cooperation is the name of the game in Valve’s 2008 first person zombie epic and its concurrent 2009 sequel imaginatively titled Left For Dead 2. The planned movie biopic of J R R Tolkien is now moving ahead, with the news that James Strong has signed up to direct the project.
The film is going by the name of Middle Earth, and Strong comes to the film off the back of small screen successes Broadchurch and United. He’s also an experienced Doctor Who director too, with stories such as Voyage Of The Damned and Planet Of The Dead to his name, along with the Cyberwoman instalment of Torchwood.
Angus Fletcher has penned the script for Middle Earth, and it’s set to tell the story of the early years of Tolkien, and what gave him the inspiration for stories such as The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Argentina's Valentin Javier Diment ranks as one of Latin America's finest purveyors of cinematic oddity. His Memory Of The Dead played like a garishly colored, deliriously over the top blend of Sam Raimi and Dario Argento and while the palette may be more muted on his latest effort - The Rotten Link - the end result is no less odd. The tale of a simplistic woodcutter in a remote town tearing itself apart at the seams, we covered this one a fair bit in its early stages and with a lengthy festival run now behind it and the Argentinean theatrical release due to begin tomorrow a brand new theatrical trailer has been released. There are no English subtitles, sadly, but the grisly sense of humor...

Though he denied it initially, that first behind-the-scenes video that was released for Star Wars: The Force Awakens a while back confirmed that life-long fan Simon Pegg (Star Trek Into Darkness, Shawn Of The Dead, Spaced) was indeed in the film.
The featurette showed Pegg in some kind of large creature suit with the top part removed so he could cool down a bit and take part in the interview, meaning we never got to see what his alien character actually looked like – but this new Disney Channel promo seems to have remedied that.
More News From The Web
The footage shows Daisy Ridley’s Rey conversing with an alien whose torso area definitely resembles the suit we saw Pegg standing in in that first video, only this time the head is visible. It hasn’t been confirmed that this handsome fella is in fact Pegg, but it seems to be the prevailing theory.

“I serve this realm. I serve Death." In the world of Sideshow Collectibles' Court of the Dead, Death leads the Underworld with one goal in mind: "rise, conquer, rule." Enforcing Death's macabre mindset is Demithyle, an Exalted Reaper General who is now depicted as a new Legendary Scale Figure from Sideshow.
Currently priced at $999.99 and expected to ship between October and December of 2016, the Demithyle Legendary Scale Figure stands over 30 inches tall and weighs in at 20 pounds.
Martin Canale and the Gore Group sculpted the general's frightful features, while designer Tom Gilliland and a talented team of developers, painters, and costume fabricators helped bring the scythe-wielding skeleton to life. To learn more, visit:

If you’ve craved more All Hallows’ Eve adventures since the end credits rolled in Michael Dougherty's 2007 holiday horror anthology, then you're in for a big Halloween treat from Legendary Comics via their new graphic novel, Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead.
Set around October 31st throughout the centuries, Days of the Dead features four macabre tales in which the tricks can be treacherous, but the treats are sweeter than any king-sized candy bar. The stories are collectively penned by Dougherty, Todd Casey, Zach Shields, and Marc Andreyko, and they leave a mark almost as indelible as the tales told onscreen in the Trick 'r Treat film—offering a good number of initial scares and leaving plenty of frightful food for thought to dig into after the last page is turned.

I recently had the chance to sit down with two of the talented writers (director Michael Dougherty was also a writer on the film) behind the upcoming film Krampus, Todd Casey and Zach Shields. Along with Dougherty they are also part of the team responsible for the four part collection of short stories set in the Trick 'r Treat universe, titled Days Of The Dead. While the original film has an extensive cult following, Days Of The Dead also serves as a little taste of what could possibly be a full-fledged film return to Sam's spooky little world.
Gt's Matt Mueller: One of the most noticeable things about all four stories is that at their core is an unexpected sentimentality. It is something I didn’t necessarily expect, but ultimately was a pleasant surprise. There is a lot of heartbreak and pain in these stories, but also a rather big splash of hope,...

Fans of the 2007 horror anthology Trick 'r Treat can now enjoy an early Halloween goodie in the form of Legendary Comics' Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead, a graphic novel containing four eclectic Halloween horror stories and featuring Sam, one of cinema's ultimate enforcers of All Hallow's Eve traditions. For our latest Q&A feature, Daily Dead caught up with two of the comic's co-writers, Todd Casey and Zach Shields, who discussed creating Days of the Dead, co-writing Michael Dougherty's upcoming Krampus film, and much more.
Where did the idea for Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead originate?
Todd Casey: I came late to the party, so I'll defer to the others on this. But my assumption is that people have been waiting a long time for Trick 'r Treat 2 (Mike included) and a comic made sense as a way to begin welcoming people back into that world.

Agnieszka Holland has been a quiet voice behind some of the most impactful TV shows of recent years (House Of Cards, The Killing, Treme and The Wire all adorn her CV) and now she's turning her talents back to the big screen. The Polish filmmaker will tackle crime-based adaptation Game Count. The film will be a murder-mystery with a hint of the darkly humorous and macabre about it. It’s being adapted from a novel by Polish novelist Olga Tokarczuk, the title of which translates into English as 'Drive Your Plow Over the Bones Of The Dead'. That source material revolves around a series of gruesome killings in the Polish boondocks and the quirky old lady who becomes the centre of the police's investigations. By this point, the zombie genre has been picked over like a vulture pecking at a skull. We’ve seen the zom-com; the rom-zom-com; Nazi Zombies; “Flight Of The Living Dead,” with zombies that happen to be a on a plane; “Gangs Of The Dead,” which is sort of like a “Zombies N’ Da Hood” type film (no, really); and pretty much any iteration of zombie you can think of is out there, though much of it is straight-to-video Z-movie junk. But hey, why not make a zombie movie where the undead face off against scouts? That’s the clever premise of “Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse,” which sounds like an excuse to just riff on the “what would you do during a Zombie Apocalypse?" meme that has invaded pop culture. The European Film Academy’s (Efa) chairwoman Agnieszka Holland has spoken of a ¨crisis of content¨ in European cinema and called on the continent’s broadcasters to invest more in ambitious TV series.
Speaking exclusively to ScreenDaily, the Polish director and Efa chair said: ¨The real crisis of European cinema is one of content.
¨We always have some good movies, but not enough. We have to make better ones, ones that are not just artistic and self-involved, but are searching for an audience.
¨Something which doesn’t help is the weakness of European television in terms of the production of ambitious TV series. We don’t have European stars, but nowadays they can be made by European television and that can be later reflected in the cinema.
“If you have this element [from television], it is then much easier to promote the films in the cinemas.¨

What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man, You cannot say, or guess, for you know only A heap of broken images, where the sun beats, And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief, And the dry stone no sound of water. - “Waste Land – The Burial Of The Dead” It's strange, I admit it, but T.S. Eliot's poetic lines on cultural decline and the fragile human spirit are making me think of the Rayburns. They're the pillars of the Florida Keys community at the center of “Bloodline,” the new original Netflix series created by Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler, and Daniel Zelman. In case you didn't know that, or haven't caught up with the entire season yet and wish to have nothing spoiled, this article will be waiting for you when you return. Otherwise, consider yourselves warned!

To end a week celebrating New Who's 10th birthday, here's a bumper list of Doctor Who titbits from Russell T Davies' The Writer's Tale...
We’ve touched on why The Writer’s Tale, the 2008 (expanded in 2010) compendium of correspondence between Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies and journalist Benjamin Cook, deserves a space on your bookshelf here.
In short, The Writer’s Tale is both a screenwriting masterclass and an unparalleled look behind the scenes of new Doctor Who. As well as following the production triumphs and emergencies as the show lurches “from one crisis to another”, it lets you witness story ideas being created in the wild. See pivotal Doctor Who moments tottering unsurely out of Davies’ mind like new-born giraffes and watch them transform into sleek, galloping beasts of majesty! Think of it like a classy David Attenborough doc on storytelling, with bonus David Tennant photos and chat about Tony from Skins.

A biblically-foretold falling star (the Wyrmwood of the title) leads to an zombie apocalypse on Earth, turning all but those with A negative blood into the walking dead. When Aussie mechanic Barry’s wife and child fall victim to the zombie “virus” he seeks out the only other member of his family, his sister Brooke – who, after surviving a zombie attack, is abducted by a sinister team of gas-masked soldiers and experimented on by a mad military scientist. Sideshow Collectibles “Queen Of The Dead” Premium Format Figure
Sideshow has always been known for their incredible ability to create works of art that capture the wonder and sophistication of some of pop culture’s most endearing characters. From Marvel Comics and Indiana Jones to Kratos, the God of War (one that personally adorns my shelves) and Star Wars, Sideshow always finds the soul of even the most tangential characters and makes them shine.
But what many don’t know, is that Sideshow is also in the business of crafting original creations. One of their most successful in-house projects has been their “Court of the Dead” collection. Conceived by Sideshow’s very own Tom Gilliland, “The Court of the Dead” is an original story and comic book surrounding the character Death and his associates. Many thanks to Sideshow for sending their newest member of “The Court” our way for a preview.

I first gazed upon Sideshow Collectibles' Court of the Dead series in person at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, and while they’ve released a number of original pieces over the years, this is their first major push in creating an original, dark fantasy world, one filled with unique characters.
Court of the Dead is spearheaded by Tom Gilliland, Sideshow's Creative Director, who gave us a personal tour of their Comic-Con booth last year, as well as an in-depth look at the new line. Seeing all of the Court of the Dead figures together and learning about Sideshow’s creative process was a fascinating experience. That being said, getting the chance to personally unbox, assemble, and photograph the Queen of the Dead Premium Format Figure, courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles, was nothing short of incredible, as she's sure to make a perfect addition to anyone's collection.
For those unfamiliar, Queen of the Dead is named Gethsemoni,...
