Sex & Nudity

  • Sonic, and many other characters, do not wear any pants.
  • In the 1998 Japanese version, the casino level in Knuckles' story shows a giant cowgirl with suggestive clothing. When you jump into her, she makes a moan, which is a very odd choice for an E-rated game. However, they replaced it with a big castle in the US version.
  • Amy Rose wears a short dress, and her underwear is often visible as a result. There is a very moderate romance between Sonic and Amy, although it is present merely for comedic terms. Amy's theme song contains some fairly suggestive lyrics, but the song is only played during the ending of her story and many players may miss the lyrics.

Violence & Gore

  • Enemies explode in an "action-movie" fashion. E-102 "Gamma's" levels involve shooting targets. An entire clan of characters is destroyed offscreen in a flashback, but it isn't dwelt upon. The clan had previously attacked a teenage girl and her little Chao friends, knocking them down, but it wasn't in a particularly violent way.

Profanity

  • There is some mild name calling, but no profanity is spoken.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There is a casino, but there is no alcohol or smoking in it.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One scene shows an entire city being flooded and destroyed by huge Tsunamis and a giant water creature, though the graphics aren't overly realistic.
  • When Sonic drowns, his eyes roll to the back of his head as he floats to the top of the water. Some might find this frightening.
  • Amy's levels, which involve fleeing a robot, are somewhat intense, and in Hot Shelter, the robot will burst through a screen. This may frighten some younger players. The final boss is a giant water type creature that just destroyed an entire city and the battle takes place in the flooded ruins.
  • The giant water creature itself, while not overly frightening, may still scare younger players.
  • This game is appropriate for all ages, but caution might need to be taken for younger players.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Profanity

  • In the Japanese version Sonic said damnit and said shoot.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a level where sonic traverses the inside of a volcano. There are big spiders, tombstones, jail cells with ghosts, skulls, and even electric chairs (although very hard to find). This level may scare younger players.
  • At the end of E-102 'Gamma's" story, he is shot and killed by the last boss onscreen. However, he is a robot, and it is not overly frighting or graphic, though it may be upsetting to some players.
