Maybe it’s not the greatest spectacle on earth (as the WWE claims) but Wrestlemania has surely always been entertaining. I think I kind of stopped watching after Wrestlemania X but that doesn’t mean I haven’t followed the results and read the stories all these years. I can only assume that celebrities will be the highlighting the event for years to come but there certainly have been a fair share of great celebrity moments at Wrestlemania. Here are 10 worth a mention. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin Sing “America the Beautiful” – Wrestlemania II and III The legendary Ray Charles and

According to Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, Hulk Hogan’s been a f***ing liar who didn’t give a f*** about the fans since I was seven years old and Heenan traded for the contract of King Kong Bundy from Jimmy Hart in order to put an end to Hulkamania. However, what a Bundy victory in the steel cage at Wrestlemania II hasn’t done, a mix of time, space, place and happenstance have done to the belief that Hulk Hogan is a good, kind and honest man most concerned with the well-being and happiness of his “Hulkamaniacs.”
From kayfabe moments throughout his career that had shoot implications to moments as a shoot where Hulk Hogan’s errors in judgement proved to have far-reaching implications, Hulk Hogan’s sadly proved more often than not that he may actually be a carny a**hole who gives zero f***s...

For decades, New York City stood as the greatest crowd in the WWE’s traveling circuit. It was the home of Madison Square Garden, which was the WWE’s home base. It showcased the first, 10th, and 20th Wrestlemania. Although Canadian crowds started to rival the intensity of New York in the late 90s and early 00s after the Montreal Screwjob, New York still ruled as the top crowd.
That status began to change over the past few years in the favor of Chicago, concurrent with the ascension of Cm Punk as a top star in WWE. Punk openly wears his love for Chicago on his sleeve (the four stars on his wrestling tights symbolize the four stars on Chicago’s flag), and Chicago has embraced him right back. That enthusiasm carries over into the entire show, and Chicago has overtaken New York as the top WWE crowd.

This Sunday at Wrestlemania 30, the WWE will hold a thirty man over the top Battle Royal in tribute to the world renowned WWE Superstar the legend that is Andre The Giant.
The first ever WWE Hall of Fame inductee Andre dominated a number of matches of this nature; this includes victory in a twenty man Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 2. On the WWE’s showcase event the current crop of superstars will hope they can repeat the accomplishment.
Wrestlemania will be by some distance the biggest audience for a WWE event this year. It provides the perfect platform for new talents to introduce themselves to a worldwide stage, various floundering midcard acts to reignite their careers and maybe even a couple of veterans to say their final goodbyes.

This Sunday is the biggest day on the calendar year for those of us who still prefer this Steve Austin over the one from The Six Million Dollar Man and who still get the urge to patriotically tear off our shirts whenever this terrible Rick Derringer song kicks in. It’s WrestleMania XXX (that’s XXX as in “30,” not in porn terms), and it’s airing live from New Orleans on Sunday night.
I’m particularly excited for this iteration of the show thanks to the development that has completely re-aligned the way I watch and think about the WWE’s theatrical grappling arts.

It all started with an idea.
WrestleMania was an idea Vince McMahon had back in 1985 that would fuse the worlds of professional wrestling and mainstream celebrity to create a true entertaining extravaganza. Over the years that followed it, McMahon would build the legacy of the show based on other highly successful ideas, both his and others’. There was the epic main event at WrestleMania III between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant that drew 93,173 fans to suburban Detroit’s Pontiac Silverdome. The Battle of the Billionaires in 2007 resulted in the highest pay-per-view buyrate until the titanic clash between The Rock and John Cena at WrestleMania 28 broke that record. The Money in the Bank ladder match worked out well, too.
As great as some of those ideas may have been, there were others that failed miserably. They missed the mark, some in spectacular fashion, and became blemishes on whatever show they appeared.

It was quite the violent week in professional wrestling, Daniel Bryan was handcuffed and nearly drown, Goldust looked like he legitimately wanted to murder Fandango, and Bully Ray threatened an innocent chair for 15 minutes. And those were the best parts! Actually, Raw was pretty solid, but for some reason, outside of the top two matches, WWE doesn’t seem too concerned that WrestleMania is almost here.
We only have five matches announced so far, and we still need 11 more participants for the Andre the Giant battle royal. Maybe the company should contact Jim Neidhart, he has a bit of battle royal experience from WrestleMania 2, or Buff Bagwell could take a night off from Gigiloing to enter for the right price (only $800 for two hours), Duke “The Dumpster” Droese is probably looking for work as well. So there are plenty of good options.

Mr. T will be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, TMZ.com have announced.
It’s likely that WWE wanted to create some media attention by announcing the news through TMZ before it aired on TV tonight for tonight’s WWE Raw.
The rumors of the actor going into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the celebrity wing have been running rampant for months now. While Mr. T has reportedly been asked to go into the Hall of Fame before, he always refused the invitation. It’s fitting that he would accept it this year now that Hulk Hogan is back in WWE (and we are sure the added interest from WWE for this anniversary likely led to more money for T).

When discussing the greatest WWE performers of all time, the name Bret Hart should be near the top of everybody’s list. The “Excellence of Execution” was one of the most consistently great performers in WWE history that had a number of awesome matches with a variety of opponents. Whether they were big guys or guys around his size, he found a way to have memorable matchups with everybody.
In terms of Bret’s WrestleMania history, he started back in 1986 at WrestleMania 2 and wrestled at every WrestleMania all the way up to WrestleMania 13 in 1997. After a 13 year absence, he returned in 2010 for one more “match” against his boss Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 26.
Hart had 14 actual matches at WrestleMania. For this column, the focus will be on ten of them because four of them weren’t much in terms of matches largely due...

The 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony already has two big names announced: The Ultimate Warrior and Jake Roberts. Warrior is expected to be the “headline” name meaning he would speak last while Roberts is definitely deserving of the honor.
In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, two more names were revealed in terms of being likely inductees for the ceremony that will be held in New Orleans on Saturday April 5th.
The first name that seems like a lock is Paul Bearer, who passed away in early 2013. It was too late to induct him last year with the group already announced, so it makes sense that it would happen this year. WWE usually tends to induct a nominee that has passed away and Bearer seems like a lock at this point.
Recent Hall of Fame classes have also featured at least one female inductee. The name that Dave Meltzer mentioned was Lita.

The month of February is Black History Month and like usual, World Wrestling Entertainment will honor their performers throughout the month. We saw on Raw that they honored WWE Hall of Famer Ernie Ladd, who was a star in the NFL before his WWE career.
There are many great black wrestlers in the history of wrestling and more specifically WWE, who helped pave the way for the stars of today.
The current WWE roster has a lot of talented black performers like Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston, Titus O’Neil, Darren Young and more that look up to the men on this list and hope to one day follow in their Hall of Fame footsteps.

Big-time professional wrestling has long been a lucrative business, but for the men of Lincolnton, North Carolina’s Millenium Wrestling Federation, the social cohesion and outlet for their imagination the sport provides is their primary compensation. As chronicled in director Robert Greene’s fantastic new documentary Fake It So Real, wrestling has never seemed as intense and physically costly. Yet Greene is not interested in mining the sport for tales of snake-bitten men reaching for a glory that will never come; this isn’t a doc version of The Wrestler. Woebegone men are few and far between in this world, despite the fact that Lincolnton seemingly doesn’t provide much in terms of career prospects. A sense of community and mutually-appreciated craft pervades the scene.

So sue me, I'm a wrestling fan. I first got into what WWE head cheese Vince McMahon prefers to call 'sports entertainment' these days way back in the early 1990s, in the era of (then) established stars like Hulk Hogan, Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, 'Million Dollar Man' Ted Dibiase, Mr Perfect, Big Bossman and a colourful, gravel throated character known as the 'Macho Man, aka Mr Randy Savage.
Born Randall Mario Poffo in 1952, Savage was a supernova among stars in the WWF roster, a character so much larger than life that even the red and yellow machismo machine that was Hulk Hogan struggled to match him in the charisma stakes.
Coming from athletic stock (his father Angelo Poffo, a well known wrestler in his own right in the 1950s and 60s who at one point held the World Sit Up record), Savage initially aspired to be a baseball player,...

It's a sad day in the entertainment world as one of it's most colourful characters has passed away. 'Captain' Lou Albano was 76. While some know him from his starring role opposite John Ritter in the 1992 hit film Stay Tuned and his many appearances as Mario in the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, others may know him from his portrayal of Cyndi Lauper's Dad in the videos for 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', 'She Bop' and 'The Goonies R Good Enough'. I, for one, will always remember him as one of the greatest wrestling personalities of all time. Over his 42-year career "Captain" Lou managed 34 men to championship gold which is an accomplishment that not even Jimmy 'Mouth of the South' Hart or Bobby "The Brain" Heenan can match. With his trademark rubber bands attached to his face he managed the likes of the U.S Express,...
