Solid Waste is a well crafted coming of age movie about the innocence of youth, the dreams of a young boy and the rude awakening to reality.
The fun of this film is that we can relate to our young hero's journey and the melancholy we felt when discovering things are not always as we believed or hoped they were.
The cast and art direction was outstanding. Great attention to detail for this 'period' piece which takes place in the late 70s.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short film and had the pleasure to see it at 2 different festivals where it was well received. It was also one of the few that was shot and presented on 35mm film rather than video.
Michael Lander has a keen eye for visuals and a grasp of storytelling.
I hope to see more from this talented director.
