Fairly Touching

Sandra Ng plays Judy, a divorced woman who has had a mastectomy who lives with her aged grandfather and works as a restaurant hostess. Francis Ng (as far as I know, no relation) plays Jordon, a small time hood who always seems to be in debt. His boss gets stabbed by his wife and Jordon is asked to take care of his infant son. Judy gets involved, as Jordon helped her and her grandfather when her grandfather was hit by a car and they were together in hospital. The story is best when it focuses on Judy and Jordon with the baby. You see happiness in Judy's life and that makes this a warm, touching film. Less compelling are the violent aspects of this film, however essential they are due to Jordon's character. Sandra Ng as I've so far seen her has never done straight romance but, like every other role I've seen her play, is great in it. You see the disappointment in life in her face, its a very compelling portrayal. Francis Ng is also very good, he is very believable. It is a film which could make you misty, but it is not an outright tearjerker. The two leads, Sandra and Francis Ng, make this worth watching. Thats an endorsement for giving this film a try.

How do you mend a broken heart?

A crying shame that Sandra Ng was not even nominated for this role which was probably one of her career best. The movie was jagged and unrefined at times, but Francis & Sandra Ng made it work.

Being a divorcee with her breast removed, Sandra Ng was able to portray the placidity with a reservoir of emotions beneath the hardened face.

In come Francis Ng, a hoodlum with his own past, equally alone in the world. A bunch of two dimensional characters propagated the movie along....the cutesy baby, the cutesy (mobster's) son, the cutesy grandfather, the cutesy driving instructor. But the two Ngs have good chemistry and Sandra Ng slowly transformed not by the prospect of love, but merely the ray of hope for being able to feel and love again.

There were enough detail for us to notice the sincerity the director put in. The greatness come in fragments and at some instances within the movie, the ordinariness of things were elevated into something magical. The lyrics (not the singing) of the theme song complemented the movie quite well.

It is enough.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a typical HK film, directed by a young director. It depicts a person under the depression of the society ,then he met with a woman who also experienced a series of difficulties in her life. She suffered with a cancer and lost her husband , and she felt there was no hope for tomorrow .So she moved to the countryside with her grandfather, a cute old man often saying 'no cola, no hope', and gave her care and happiness to soothe her misery .

He met his Juliet in a restaurant ,justlooking at her eyes and said nothing. But it was magic and made things different. Owing to an unexpected occurrence , they adopted a lovely baby and had to foster it under one roof for some time . These days were the happiest time during their lives , they accompanied the baby to row the boat and walked along the trails . The sun was bright, everything was going well. They both also couldn't believe they had lived together .They sat outside the house to tell the other those old stories ,silently and in sorrow. But now they had the person to share with these stories. They were both abandoned by this society, and now they found that they had reached the bank. The grandfather left them because of a car accidence ,when he retreated the shoes he bought for her granddaughter she thought they were a little bigger.

The old man made them begin to love this world and find the lighthouse in the life. It was a shelter for them . Life was not just like tales, they separated with death. Many details in this film, and I was moved by them. Sometimes I would push back my tears . Some people think this ending is a flaw of the film, while I accept it . I realize that this is just life. Wuthering wind through the moor and if you could find your lover and put him or her in your heart ,it is enough.
