Daphne Fowler left Eggheads a few years ago after a long, successful quizzing career. Here’s why she’s an inspiration…
In April 2002, Daphne Fowler and Chris Hughes formed part of a quizzing supergroup assembled by The Guardian. For a bit of fun, the newspaper set some of the country’s top trivia buffs loose on the greater London pub quiz circuit to see what havoc they could wreak.
The “dream team” cut a swathe from Clerkenwell to Hampstead, only coming unstuck on a foray to the King’s Head in Rochester where they lost the win by a single point. Having failed to recognise the theme tune to Beverley Hills 90210, they filed onto the minibus home and drove away from the week’s lone defeat. Somewhere along the A2, a dejected then-out-of-work Hughes told his teammates “I just wish I could turn all this garbage in...

Given his attachment to the likes of Christopher Nolan’s Bat-trilogy, the current incarnation of Spider-Man and, most notably, Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel, it would honestly surprise us more to learn that composer Hans Zimmer is rolling out a dubstep remix of his Going For Gold theme tune than word that he’s agreed to write the music for the Batman-adding Man Of Steel follow-up.Though he’d said he might not tackle it, Zimmer has told Digital Spy that he is indeed stepping back into Snyder’s superheroic world. "We've already had a couple of chats, and once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas," Zimmer said. The biggest issue for him will be making this...

In this list we pay tribute to a series of TV themes which,...

"Going for - going for - going for - Gold!" That familiar and catchy theme tune will always remind Digital Spy of the arrival of the dapper and charming presenter Henry Kelly on daytime European quiz show Going For Gold. Bringing a bit of sparkle and plenty of charisma to the nation's living rooms, Kelly helmed the complex rounds (Four In A Row, Who Am I?) and carried the show masterfully for nine years. The Irish-born presenter began his career as a serious journalist for the Irish Times and Radio 4's World Tonight before switching (more)...
