EN PELIGRO DE MUERTE is a routine Mexican comedy vehicle for stars Viruta and Capulina, a couple of likable buffoons in the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby mould, who fell into various adventures in a film series of the early 1960s. This entry is cheap and unremarkable, shot in black and white and in a single location for the most part.
It's an example of Cuban director Rene Cardona treading water between the well-remembered exploitation films he made during the decade, like NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES and WRESTLING WOMEN VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY. The viewer is introduced to the central pair as they ride horses, looking for gold and singing songs. They encounter a hostile tribe of Indians, subdue their foes with modern technology, and rescue a couple of beautiful girls to boot.
A film like this is difficult to watch today because the production values are so low when compared to what the viewer is used to in the 21st century. They're on average with a typical Hollywood B-movie of the 1930s and the quality isn't much better. There's no action to speak of, just dated humour and tired characterisation.
