Though he got his start on the small screen, aside from a one-off 2001 project "Strumpet" and of course, the London Olympics, director Danny Boyle has mostly remained planted in the feature film world. But with "Trance" earning the least amount of money in theaters since his breakout film "Shallow Grave" (and obviously arriving with much bigger expectations and star power than that film), it looks like Boyle will head back to television for a new project Radio Times reveals Boyle will direct a "police drama" for Channel 4 in the U.K. And that's about all the details at the moment, but needless to say, we're already pretty intrigued by this premise. The show is being penned by Sam Bains and Jesse Armstrong, the pair behind the hit U.K. comedy series "Peep Show," so this will certainly mark a change of pace for them. As for any other details...

A junkie diving into "the worst toilet in Scotland" to recover his drug suppositories; a double-decker bus lying on its side in the deserted, zombie-infested London streets; privileged Edinburgh students dismembering corpses; a poet living with a stray dog in a squalid flat; a policeman telling residents they should expect to be burgled – probably not the "best of Britain" image the Olympic organisers had in mind for the opening ceremony.
But despite being the purveyor of these memorably grim moments (via Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Shallow Grave, TV movie Strumpet, and Millions, respectively), Danny Boyle was chosen to direct the show.
And when his appointment was announced two years ago, the collective response was one of pleasant surprise, rather than collective groans and yawns. Such a commission could easily have been put into safer,...
