When I was a kid, one of the movies that I liked the most was ''Mônica e a Sereia do Rio'''. One of the reasons why this movie is not very well known(specially abroad), is because ''Turma da Mônica'' (Monica's group) is a magazine's collection that Maurício de Souza, the creator, wrote and draw and only had published in Brazil and in Argentina. He also made three movies (one of them this one I am writing about)about little adventures of Monica and her friends.'Mônica e a Sereia do Rio' ('Mônica and the river's mermaid)is about when Mônica meets a *fairy* (who is actually also a mermaid) and they both make an agreement: when Mônica finish to tell a story about her and her friends, thei mermaid-fairy sings a different song. For fans of the magazine, like I was until my earlies 13's, this movie is very nice.

Walter Hugo Khouri's Childish Side

Walter Hugo Khouri is one of the best directors with some great titles and capable of delivering a film whether it's erotic, romance, drama, thriller, sex comedy or horror. He has been able to prove this and his filmography is an example to appreciate his vision on breaking old traditions with sexual undertones often thrown in.
I never imagined to see his name linked to a title theoretically intended for children. I never wanted to see this, but finally watched only the live action sequences directed by Walter Hugo Khouri. It was weird to see the Brazilian singer Tetê Espíndola who is compared to Kate Bush dressed in funny costumes (Macaw, Jaguar). It feels like the director was taking a camp-like attitude, laid-back and shooting the scenes. There are gibberish shrieks in the songs which sounds like a poor version of Diamanda Galas.
Nevertheless, as someone who loves Walter Hugo Khouri, i'm happy he didn't depart from his style and this was just a voluntary effort. It is quite a good discovery for his fans and definitely can give this one a chance.
