Before Charlie Chaplin came onto the scene, the world's most popular movie comedian was Max Linder, whose career extended from 1905 through his death in the mid-twenties. Chaplin called him 'The Professor'. In a long series of shorts for Pathe, he rang the changes on his role as a Parisian boulevardier, falling in love with some lovely young woman and getting into funny situations.
Here, after one of his better meet-cutes -- he rescues the young lady's dog from some ruffians in the park -- he calls on her and has to masquerade as a door-to-door pedicurist -- although the German title seems to think he is a chiropractor. Max' reactions as he has to tend to the feet of increasingly unattractive members of the family are very funny. And that is the entirety of this ten-minute movie -- and a highly satisfying one it is, too.
