Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we go down south to talk about Billy Bob Thornton! To do this, we bring in devoted Billy Bob fan, friend, writer, director, and producer Nicholas Gray of Uncompromised Creative.
We have a super-sized B-Side collection today: (deep breath) Homegrown, Daddy and Them, Waking Up in Reno, The Badge, Levity, Chrystal, and Jayne Mansfield’s Car.
Conor makes the observation that Thornton may be a leading man trapped in a character actor’s body, Nicholas marvels at the nuance of Jayne Mansfield’s Car, and I mention liking movies that start with an original sin of sorts. We talk about how Burt Reynolds helped Billy Bob break into the business, the long cultural legs of his film Sling Blade,...

Alicia Allain, a producer and actress who started in the business as a hair stylist, has died according to a social media post by her husband, John Schneider. She was 53.
“This is a time of unimaginable sorrow for me,” former Dukes of Hazzard star Schneider wrote after his wife’s passing. “Grief is much too small a word. I’ve heard it said that ‘with great love comes great sorrow.’ I had no idea what that meant until now. Alicia was the fuel that ran my biggest dreams. The inspiration behind every creative thought. The very fabric of my soul. The glue that held me together. I miss her more than any words could possibly describe.”

Billy Bob Thornton has found yet another new woman to dote on, just three months after splitting from his actress wife Angelina Jolie. The Oscar winner has been romantically linked with 23-year-old actress Danielle Dotzenrod and his ex-wife Pietra since Jolie filed for divorce - and now it looks like he has turned his attentions and affections to country singer Deana Carter. The pretty star has been spending time with Thornton on the set of his new movie Bad Santa and the actor has even agreed to direct her new video "There's No Limit." Carter, who met Thornton when they worked together on movie The Badge, says, "We have a really great chemistry together. I respect him so much. I'm just loving him for who he is right now. I just went through a divorce last year after being married for six years, so I know how difficult it is. I just try to be a good friend."...

The film Billy Bob Thornton feared he'd never see has been saved from oblivion by an American film channel. Movie executives turned their backs on The Badge because it was so similar to Thornton's acclaimed role in Monster's Ball. But cable channel Starz came to the rescue of the star-studded film, which also features Patricia Arquette, William Devane and Jena Malone, and they plan to air it as a special feature this coming weekend. Henson says, "Everyone is delighted. This is a good film with great performances. It was kind of orphaned for a while and then Starz stepped in and they've been very good for the film."...
