An over protective father, Ernesto, is obsessed with the welfare of his daughter Monica. He is an Argentine man living in Spain with his wife Ines. Ernesto, who has successfully reinvented himself in his adoptive country, is a wealthy man. Monica's well being is his only desire. For that purpose, he has engaged a body guard to be with Monica at all times. One wonders what really is going on.
It does not take long to find out that Monica is suspected to have been one of the stolen babies by the military regime that ruled Argentina during the military regime. Nothing was spared to get rid of the young people suspected of being involved in a conspiracy to create chaos in the country to get their point across. The military machinery crushed all that opposed them, killing thousand young people and sending many into exile.
The case of Diana Leardi surfaces when his grandfather, Bruno, traces her to Spain. Leardi figures Ernesto Erigaray, the father of Monica, was involved with the military repressive forces working at the time. Bruno comes to the conclusion Monica is none other than Diana, his stolen granddaughter. Monica, like other victims of this crime, wants nothing to do with Leardi. She believes she is Ernesto and Ines' legitimate daughter until she begins unearthing facts no one had ever told her.
The film by Uruguayan director Manane Rodriguez, tries to make sense of a horrible time in the history of her neighbor country, Argentina. The story reminds us of a much better film "The Official Story" which came out some time ago and dealt in much the same theme as this one. There are not surprises since we realize Ernesto was instrumental in such crime, being he involved in the camps where the prisoners were taken to be slain. It has been documented the criminals behind the atrocities stopped at nothing in order to accomplish their campaign to eliminate the people daring to be against the military junta.
Luis Brandoni and Federico Luppi two big stars of the Argentine cinema are seen as the opponents Ernesto and Bruno. Irene Visedo appears as Monica/Diana and Concha Velasco is Ines, the woman hiding a dark past.
